“ABE Class Trip”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

I took my adult class to the museum to see 2 exhibits. My students really enjoyed the exhibits. The first one was with several different African American artists. It was a very deverse and interesting exhibit. The second one was Baldwin Lee's photography exhibit. He traveled through the south and took photographs.

What I couldn't believe was that admission to the museum was free. I have never heard of something like that, I know in New York City some museums have free times on certain days and hours. But never totally free!

What a special place. The glass display is fantastic and the new wing will make it even better. Their events are a lot of fun.

“Amazing Tiffany Glass Exhibit - Do the Scavenger Hunt”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

This museum rivals any in the major cities. Beautiful venue near downtown Norfolk with an amazing permanent collection as well as impressive rotating exhibits. Some of the glass is a little bewildering (no descriptions) but the Tiffany Glass exhibits and the modern glass is excellent. There's even a new art studio where you can watch live glass blowing in an adjacent building.

If you're travelling with kids (or even if you're not) get the scavenger hunt at the info desk. It's really clever, not to mention enjoyable and informative. It helped me see details I would never have noticed without a guide to point them out.

Admission is free nowadays but I think they are due to close for an extensive renovation pretty soon.
