“MUST DO IN NORFOLK”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

We had a short weekend in Norfolk visiting our son who is a Marine stationed in Norfolk. Based upon research here on tripadvisor we thought we'd give this boat tour a try.

WE were so glad we did! It's exactly as advertised and more.

What a fun and relaxing time and I don't know of a better way to see the harbor.

The tour guide was informative, funny and we were able to see so many things.

A couple surprises where the Coast Guard tall ship Eagle and the Iwo Jima which was undergoing some updates. A battle ship in dry dock and of course the Navy fleet up close and personal.

AWESOME!!!

“Excellent experience for my son and me”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

What a great time we had. My almost-4-year old son was fascinated by the USS Wisconsin at the pier of Nauticus, so I asked him if he would like to see more navy ships, and was thrilled when he said yes. I sure wanted to see more. We bought 2 tickets for this 2-hour cruise for an awesome total of $20! What a deal! The ship was outstanding. Very clean and comfortable, and unlike many of the tour ships I've been on, this one had an excellent sound system. The guy giving us all the information on all the ships and buildings, and anything else he could think of, was loud and clear, and super-informative. Next time I'll sit on the right side of the boat, since that's the best side for a great view of the navy ships. It is a round-trip, but the boat is further away from the base on the way back, so it's not exactly the same view for those on the left on the way back.
On the way back, my son wanted a hot dog, so we went downstairs and enjoyed the snack bar and the nice little eating area. We both had a great time and would definitely do this again.

“Best introduction to the port and naval base”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

Don't miss this cruise. Quality vessel and great narration-very informative. Start with a cruise past the dry docks, followed by a fully narrated trip outbound on the Elizabeth River past the naval hospitals, docked US naval vessels, into Hampton Roads, and back to port. The captain/narrator gives an entertaining and knowledgeable explanation of just what this important waterway is all about.

“Fail to Impress”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

The tour content itself is interesting as details are given about various naval ships and history along the route. However, the tour guide narrated the tour in a robotic manner with no personality. I understand that he might have been bored with reading out the same information every day but, it would make it much more memorable and interesting if he sounded less mechanical and more human. Otherwise, just play a recording of the tour and don't even bother narrating the tour live.

“Well worth it!!”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

We didn't have time to go thru the Nauticus museum and the Naval base cruise. So we just did the 2 hour base cruise. We had someone over a loud speaker telling us about everything we were seeing. I wondered how close we would get to the Naval ships. We got close enough. You could se people walking out on the decks. There just happen to be a supply ship that was leaving the ship yard. We got to see the tug boats getting it out of his slip at the dock and out the gate and off it went. It was a sight to see. It is so worth it. There is also one that is from the Hampton side I would be interested in doing next time. If you were going to do the museum and the cruise plan for an afternoon in that area.
