“must be comfortable in a "BAR"”
Reviewed September 20, 2011

yes, this is a dive. have been here a number of times w/brother & or husband. would not go alone, was just there on Sunday night & football was the only thing going on--very loud. saw some people looking for a "better" restraurant. drinks ok, beer cold. now let's talk food. steamed shrimp are great, large, fresh and not overcooked. burgers large and very nice.

“it sucks”
Reviewed August 26, 2011

my review is poor. The origianl owners I knew and the place was so much better than it is now or ever will be. Steve and Joe Redogna had it going on. The food was outstanding all the time and the atmosphere was pleasant every time I was there. I worked there when they owned it and was real sad to see them sell it. Have been there once and will never go back. Food is crappy and atmosphere sucks.

“Dont be deceived”
Reviewed January 27, 2010

Looks arent everything, and the Thristy Camel is a prime example. The camel is one of those places ypu either love or hate. The pound of shrimp special is some of the best on the Chesapeake. Atmosphere is a little rough, but this place has been here a long time. If you can get over its rough exterior The Camel is a diamond in the rough. The soft shell crab sandwich used to be pretty good (its been a few years since Ive been there). The place caters to the locals more than anything. The neighborhood of the Spit is relaxed and informal, and anytime is a good time for a party. So if you arnet shy and dig good seafood then the Thristy Camel is worth a try.The Surf and Turf was pretty awesome too.

“Local Bar with great food”
Reviewed August 16, 2009

The Thirsty Camel was recommended by the hotel across the street - they said it was in business for 40 years and everyone said the food was good. We walked in the first door right next to where a local band (guitar, bass & bongos) were playing. I would recommend entering via the door closer to the beach. We sat in a booth and ordered the dinner special: $13 for lb of steamed jumbo shrimp, and a fried fish platter - both were excellent. The waitress was attentive and nice. The people were obviously having a good time – a variety of ages, tho I’d say more 30+ The band was OK, I guess what you’d expect. I am not a "bar" person, but I'd go back for the food and the local ambiance.
