If you are looking for a place on the beach in Norfolk, this is definitely the best place. It is clean and reasonably priced. It does have an outdoor pool, but be aware that it doesn't open until Memorial Day. The beach is a very short walk from any room. Most of the rooms have a view of the ocean. A plus is the small kitchenette with a refrigerator (big size) and a sink. This was our 2nd stay. It also comes with a full breakfast.

My teenage daughter, sister & I stayed at this hotel for a week at the end of April, and would probably go back again with a few caveats : we'd ask for a room with the new mattresses (they're just in the process of upgrading them, which we only found out when mentioning it at checkout), and we'd check the insulation around the air conditioning unit & balcony door - there were wild winds (average 45 mph every day) and the howling and whistling as the wind came in through the air conditioner (even putting a towel over it didn't help) and around the door was really something. The air conditioner also leaked all over the carpet and by the fourth day we had a very large wet spot that stretched all along the front wall of the room.

Having said that, without reservation every staff member we met was very friendly and pleasant, the room was spotlessly clean every day and it's very conveniently located central to Williamsburg (outlet malls & Busch Gardens) and Virginia Beach (boardwalk & aquarium). I called about a week prior to checking in to specifically request a beach-facing room on the highest floor available in the tower section, and that's exactly what we got.

The small kitchenette was very handy, we only really used the mini-fridge, microwave & coffeemaker but there is also a small stove/oven combination. The free breakfast was OK but crowded during the weekend, and limited on the warm food front to scrambled eggs, make-your-own waffles, gravy & biscuits. We ended up going out to a local diner for more variety.

The beds (as mentioned by others) were VERY firm, which was fine with my sister & daughter but gave me such bad back problems I ended up buying a memory foam mattress pad to put on top of my side (I was sharing a queen size bed with my daughter), which solved the problem but at a fairly high cost.

In summary, although there were some issues with the room we would consider staying there again mostly due to the extremely positive attitudes of all the staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the tower, they all face the beach/ocean.

i'm a local and i've stayed here a few times off season just as a day escape.....i've always gotten a room facing the bay and have spent many an hour just sitting on the balcony watching people on the beach or just enjoying peace and quiet......
the staff has always been awesome......the rooms i've had have always been clean and the beds are comfy......the rooms i've had have mini kitchens with just about everything you might need to fix a quick meal......mini fridge, stove, microwave, plates, eating utensils, pots, pans, etc......there is a pool there but i've never used it.....

there are only a couple of things i would consider negatives but they are not really deal breakers in my book.....
the first is that the door to the balcony does not stay open.....it would be nice if we had the option to be able to keep the door propped open and if it had a screen to keep flying insects out.....
the other negative is the neighborhood but i know that is not something the hotel can control.....i know oceanview is in the process of being revamped and with all the other positives this hotel has to offer it's easy to overlook the iffy neighborhood.....
just keep your car doors locked! (and i would say that in any neighborhood....good, bad or in between)

Room Tip: make sure you specify you'd like a room with a view of the water facing the bay.....

We booked a king suite assuming it would have a view of the water, which when we got there we found out it didn't, which is our fault. The rooms were very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful (the person that checked us in not so much, he couldn't guarantee that we could move to another room on the second day, and that only way we could do it is to make another reservation, and then cancel it).
We planned to check out the second day and move to another hotel, but moved to a room with a view instead. Breakfast area has its own attendant and is always clean. When packing our stuff i did find a bug in the closet on the floor in the closet on the morning the day we were checking out, but seems as if the pest control worked, so it wasn't a big deal. Theres only so much you can do for that. (only reason i didnt gave sleep quality 5 stars was that the mattress was too firm for me)

Room Tip: If you are on a budget and do not care for the beach view, get the king suite rather than the "...

We spent 6 days over the Easter Weekend at this hotel. Our 3rd floor room was in the tower overlooking the ocean. We loved the ocean view and went to sleep each night with the drapes open and the lights of the ships twinkling in the distance. Each morning we woke to beautiful ocean views. Walking on the beach was enjoyable. Our room had a kitchenette was handy even though we didn't really need it. We found it located close to everything we wanted to do - just a short car ride to downtown venues and equally close to Virginia Beach. The staff were very friendly and the free continental breakfast was great.

Clean, comfortable, reasonably priced waterfront room with beach access. Friendly staff. We stayed in the "towers" section and our room had a kitchenette (didn't use it) and a balcony (lovely!). Best part was listening to the waves lull us to sleep at night. Parking is complimentary for hotel guests. Short drive to good restaurants--try 905 for breakfast or brunch or head down to the Ghent area for some other great options.

Room Tip: All tower rooms have a balcony that is oceanfront.

Stayed here just overnight after seeing Cirque De Soliel. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. Hotel is on the older side, but very clean and nice updated bathrooms. Pillows could have been a bit more firm, but otherwise the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was very good; nice variety with eggs, bisquits, waffles, toast, cereal and muffins. The room also had a really nice kitchenette with full fridge/freezer, oven/stove, microwave, and coffee maker. They also furnish dishes, pots/pans and silverware. Overall a very nice stay.

Room Tip: I believe the rooms in the Towers have balconies overlooking the bay, but on check in we inquired ab...
