We were there on July 4th. The Marriott associates were very helpful and they gave us waterfront rooms on the 15th floor. I've read reviews that this was a old structure - it is - but the facilities are updated. Our room was excellent. The location is great. We went out to the park across - the Town Point Park - very nice crowd for July 4th. Good thing the Marriott associate told us we had great views from our rooms, we decided to go up in time for the fireworks and we did have the best view of the fireworks.

Parking - During the weekend, since we were mostly out and about, we just parked on the streets and it was a lot cheaper. I think it was free until 9 am in the morning. We didn't have to pay a lot of parking costs.

Norfolk's newest public artwork 'MetalMatisse' is just a walk away from the Norfolk Marriott. The sculpture comes to life with lights and music when you go near it. We had fun running around it and making it play orchestra music and attracted quite a bit of crowd who enjoyed the experience with us.

Would go there again.

Room Tip: Waterfront rooms obviously make a difference. It has the same ambience as the Baltimore Waterfront Marriott in terms of view.

Thank you for your wonderful comments about your visit over the Fourth of July Holiday. We have just finished a renovation of all the guest rooms, Piano Lounge and lobby. As you experienced, we are very fortunate to be close to all the attractions in downtown Norfolk.

Awesome view of the fireworks from the 6th floor terrace. Also could have watched them from the room. Elevators were slow for the upper floors. The second floor bar was terrific! Concierge lounge was terrible at breakfast. No forks, cold food and no where to sit. Will definitely visit again next year for the fourth, but just make different breakfast plans.

If you find yourself at the Norfolk Waterfront, this is a great location. Walking distance to all the activities. Excellent Pool for the kids with great water views. We stayed here on the way to our vacation spot in the OBX and this was a perfect spot. We will come back for sure.

We stayed at this hotel from June 27th-July 1st, 2013. It was a very nice hotel in a great location. My two key expectations from a top hotel are a great shower and a great bed and on these two tests, the Marriott aced them. The bed was incredible, as is becoming expected at Marriott hotels and the shower had good pressure and a nice, adjustable head. (We had a little hick-up in that the tub did not drain quickly enough on the first day, but engineering fixed that within an hour or our reporting it.) My one turn off of this hotel and others of its ilk is the idea of paying for Wi-Fi. In this age, it is absurd that any hotel charges for connectivity: it is like charging for lights or TV. It is humorous that cheaper hotels like Days Inn often do not charge for Wi-Fi but more expensive ones do. OK, off the soapbox now.

This hotel has a Shula's steakhouse downstairs as the restaurant, but we did not eat there, as we have a Shula's in our hometown. The bar area of the Shula's was nice enough, but a little pricey as one might expect.

The location of this hotel is greaet with many entertainment and dining choices within easy walking distance. The breeze off the river made the weather pleasant.

I stayed one week in this Marriot which is in the center of Norfolk downtown not far away from the Nautilus museum and the waterfront. The hotel is ok but a bid outdated. A shopping mall is just opposite of the hotel.
