We opted to tour only the second floor which was free as we did not have much time for more. The USS Wisconsin was there and looked quite imposing from outdoors. The items on the second floor were interesting, especially information about the Monitor and the Merrimac and seeing the models with the two items in perspective.

The center has some interesting displays but nothing like across Hampton Roads and the Maritime Museum with its USS Monitor center in Newport News. There is a USS Wisconsin history area and a naval history area. It's not a top flight museum but unlike in the past where one could walk the decks of the battleship without paying to enter the museum those days are over. If you've never been on an Iowa Class battleship, pay the fee and walk these must see decks

We just stopped in for a quick visit. All we really did was check out the boat and the gift shop. Would have been nice to have more time to do some more exploring. Its as good as it gets without having access to the ships on base in Norfolk!

Went to have a look around
Wow what a place all the US navy history.
Best part was to walk around the USS Wisconsin.
I had seen the pictures but they do not describe how big it is.
It is VERY BIG.
Whilst walking around the top deck there were a lot a US navy officers grouping together on the bow of the ship
It turned out to be an Ensign reenlisting it was great to see him receiving his papers from a senior officer and being given the US flag as hanks.
Also the Officer was thanking the family for allowing him to reenlist.
It would appear in Norfolk any Officer being promoted or any reenlistment is done on the ship
So look for out this, It made my day all in there whites.
Ended up taking the boat tours around the harbour great tours.
Enjoyed the day so much forgot the time and had to pay $10 for the parking in the garage opposite.

Thank Robert D
