As a former crewmember during Viet Nam, I just had to go back and see her one more time. Great experience.

“Quick overview of the base”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

This was a nice inexpensive way ($10 per person) to see the base. The tour takes place all on a bus, but you do get a pretty good view of the ships. Our guide was knowledgeable about the base. We also enjoyed seeing the houses from the Jamestown exposition.

“Not What Was Promised”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

I was stationed at the Norfolk Naval Station from 1969-1971. I worked in the 5th Naval District Headquarters Building. It was a disappointment that we were not allowed to drive onto the base, but understood that after 9-11 things really changed. Before taking the tour, I asked if the bus would travel past that building. The driver said, "Yes." It didn't and I wasn't very happy about that. Other than that, the tour was OK.

“Interesting for anybody!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

This tour is bus oriented. Our tour guide was fantastic but would assume without the right guide it may not be all that exciting. This motor coach style tour takes you through the Norfolk Naval Base while the guide points out areas of interest. During our tour we were able to see an ample amount of active duty Naval ships and the recently decommissioned US Enterprise. Two of my sons loved the tour, as they are true Military fanatics. I believe it is a must see stop if you are looking for a day away from the beach. The tour gives a great perspective on our military. It is somewhat of a no thrills tour but it all civilians to see some very interesting things.

“Great for the military buff in your family.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

This is NOT a boat tour. This is a bus tour of the majority of the naval base. It's 45 min and costs $10 for adults. Adults will need ID. Tours depart from a visitor center on Hampton rd near gate 5 of the base. You'll go through some security and board a motor coach style tour bus. A navy personel gives some witty commentary as you drive past the docks with all the naval ships. You'll also go just about everywhere on base but you cannot get off the bus for security reasons. Also, you cannot take pictures while driving past the ships for security reasons. During the tour we saw subs, one air craft carrier, and lots of battle ship type ships. We also saw numerous helicopters, jets, and other aircraft take off. It's not a long tour and not unbelievable but I certainly enjoyed myself as did the other guys I was with.
