We have just returned from two weeks at the Oasis, Well what can I say. WOW. Everything was lovely. Our room was huge, more like a suite. Dana our maid kept every thing lovely for us and always had a smile whenever we saw her, The breakfast was fabulous, fruit, cerials, full english, cold meats and cheese, fresh baked bread, crossiants and cakes, we ate so much we hardly needed lunch! The promenade in front of the hotel was a lovely walk to several nearby bars and restaurants, with dozens of local cats all after some fuss! The restaurant in the hotel did seem slightly more expensive than the local ones nearby, everyone seems to mention Origens with good reason, the food is excellent and the waiters friendly and a good source of local knowledge.Back to the Hotel,We got the free bus to Funchal every day and picked up a bus timetable from the tourist info board, we used the local buses and saved a fortune on excursions. Canico Town is a very steep walk from the Hotel , we did walk this several times, there is a lovely square and it feels very traditional. We also walked to Christo Rei from the Hotel, This took about an hour, but for me was unmissable. We definately will return to Madeira and this Hotel, the manager should be proud , I have stayed in many Hotels and this is absolutely one of the nicest, cleanest and friendliest I Have ever stayed at.

Just back yesterday from a Christmas week at the Oasis Hotel, Canico, Madeira, and want to recommend this place. A wonderful hotel and wonderful staff - suitable for everyone seeking a quiet relaxing holiday among similar minded people.
Very good facilities, pleasant and varied entertainment provided, and good food in the restaurants (two) and grill (really a bar-snacks area).
Facilities include decent pools (one indoor), snooker (new table) and table tennis (full size table).
There is a free hotel bus service to Funchal - book a day in advance - or the local bus which calls at the hotel.
The room we had had a front sea view (over the pool area) with great views of three islands some ten kilometres from Madeira. (We had booked a garden room but on arrival found it a bit gloomy and too close to one of the paths to the promenade - reception quickly upgraded us to a room we would want on our return next year - the cost of upgrading was half that quoted to us by the travel company when we first made our bookings. So the lesson here is perhaps book the hotel on-line and arrange your travel through the travel company. Having said that, we travelled with First Choice and they were excellent both on the airline front both ways, and local rep Catherine.
The area is quite isolated from main resorts such as Funchal, but close to airport (15 minutes by motorway) and there are no easy walks apart from a rather short promenade - pretty in its own way. If there were good coastal paths this would be Paradise.
If one element of the Oasis sticks out it is the quality of the staff - there friendliness coupled with a keeness to assist is the best I've ever experienced at any holiday resort.
I recommend this to hotel for the holidaymaker seeking a relaxing time. (Could be suitable for families with young children, but not really for the livlier sort of teenager).
Go on , book it now.

We visited Madeira for a short break in the middle of December, and stayed at the Oasis Atlantic. We hired a car at the airport and found the hotel easily enough, coming off at junction 16 and following the road down the hill. The hotel is quite well signposted so you can't really go wrong.

The hotel is right at the bottom of the hill and by the seafront. It's fairly large but is dwarfed by the Riu Palace hotel nextdoor which looks quite expensive. There is a car park at the entrance to the hotel, and plenty more free car parking around the hotel too. As it was a fairly quiet time for tourists we had no problem with parking spaces.

On arrival at the hotel our passports were taken for the first evening, which we were able to recover in the morning. The reception area was quite spacious, with a nice big Christmas tree in the centre and a few little shops selling souvenirs and general supplies.

We had booked a garden room, and found ourselves on the first floor. The room was a very nice size and faced southeast, with a nice view of both the garden and the sea behind it. Behind the large patio door was a reasonable balcony with two seats and a small table. Despite another part of the hotel opposite facing north, it appeared the hotel had been designed in such a way as to allow the sun to always shine on our side of the hotel. Obviously the north-facing rooms would have got no sun at all and their balconies appeared a bit smaller, more of a wedge shape than rectangular.

The room itself was quite large, with two single beds pushed together but made as singles. We found that there were too many covers as it didn't get cold at night, so removed some of them and put the in the large wardrobe. The room had a TV with about 30 channels, including a few English ones - BBC World being the main one. There were also local stations, other Portuguese stations, and Spanish and German stations as well as MTV and VH1 for music fans.

The room also had a fridge which was surprisingly empty, a sofa, a couple of small tables, a desk, several lamps, and in the bathroom was the toilet, a bidet, bath, shower, basin, and hairdryer. The shower, although from the mixer tap, was powerful and warm. There were plenty of towels, and some sachets of shampoo, packs of soap, and shower caps. There was also a standard shaver socket and a tissue dispenser in the bathroom.

Now for the rest of the hotel. On the first floor are some conference rooms, and a general leisure room with some comfy chairs, a TV and some books to read. There are also a couple of computers which are connected to the internet, which are free to use. They ask that you spend no more than 30 minutes however this doesn't appear to be policed, generally it's up to everyone to be sensible about it if others are waiting to use the computers. With the majority of people staying at the hotel being OAP's it was never a problem getting onto the computers.

On the ground floor there was a lounge with lots of comfy chairs and a nice large window with views over the pool and the sea. Also here was housed Rita, the African grey parrot that everyone has talked about. She has an interesting repertoire of songs and whistles, and even speaks in English! Behind the shops there was a games room with a full-sized snooker table and a table tennis table, both in good condition. Equipment was freely available from reception, and like the computers were usually not being used due to the age of the residents.

The main staircase from reception took you down to level minus 1, which contained two restaurants, a bar area with stage, and behind all that a small gym and a swimming pool with sauna. There was also a nice nativity scene. Doors outside led to the outdoor swimming pool and sun loungers. The pool and loungers looked clean but we didn't see anyone using the pool in the time we were there, and only a few on the loungers. From the pool were more steps down to another level with what looked like beach chalets. Then there was a gate which was security-code locked to prevent unwanted people gaining entrance to the hotel. The security code was given to us when we checked in so we could come and go as we pleased, however the gate was locked permanently at 11pm. Outside the gate was a promenade which ran to the left to a small man-made sandy beach and a beach restaurant, and to the right past the Riu Palace hotel and up some steps into the "main" part of Canico de Baixo.

Of the two restaurants at the hotel, we only used one which called Aqua something. It is a buffet-style restaurant serving different styles of food each night, and you can go up and help yourself to any of what they have on offer for a set price of around
€25 per person. The two times we ate there the food was pretty good. The other restaurant looked a bit smarter and I think was a more traditional restaurant rather than buffet. For breakfast we ate in the same Aqua restaurant, again it was a help-yourself buffet with a choice of traditional English fry-up food, cereals, fruit etc, with hot drinks also included. The main waiter there will greet you with a big smile, a warm welcome and probably a kiss if you're a lady! He was a real character but friendly and charming with it at the same time.

In the evenings there is always some form of entertainment happening on stage. The first night there was a duo singing covers of well-known songs, and they were reasonably good. Sunday was cabaret night, with a male singer and some scantily-dressed ladies dancing around. It looked like some of the more elderly gentlemen in the audience were getting quite excited by it all! Unfortunately the whole thing only lasted 30 minutes. Then when there was nobody else on they had Brian on his keyboard singing covers, again he wasn't too bad.

In the vicinity of the hotel there are a few restaurants within easy walking distance. Origens was quite nice, they served traditional Madeiran beef on a skewer hanging from an iron stand. There are plenty more restaurants in Canico itself but unless you're very fit they are not within walking distance as they are a fair way up a steep hill. If you have a car it's about 5-10 minutes' drive but then you can't drink. One of the restaurants in Canico runs a free minibus service from the seafront hotels and this can be booked at reception. We didn't go there but another couple we spoke to had been and said it was the one of the best restaurants they've been to.

There is a bus stop outside the hotel which will take you into Funchal, however I'd recommend that unless you are intending to spend most of the time at the hotel or in Funchal that you hire a car. There is so much to see on the island and some very nice drives if you like twisty mountain roads with excellent views.

All in all Madeira is one of the nicest places I've been to and the hotel lives up to the rest of the island. It's peaceful, it's in a nice setting, and it has everything you would need - as long as you're not into clubbing and partying till the early hours of the morning!

Having just returned from our 3rd visit to the Oasis we felt it was about time to write a review to let everyone know what a wonderful time we have whenever we holiday here.We are greeted by many of the staff as people that they know and remember and make us feel instantly relaxed and 'at home'.
We always have a sea view suite which is massive, extremely comfortable and with fabulous views of the ocean from all points of the room through the windows of our 2 balconies. The sound of the waves on the rocks beyond the gardens and promenade is always very soothing.
The whole hotel is spotlessly clean and the maid even washes any dishes in your kitchenette. As I am not too well in the mornings we always have breakfast in the room, well on the balcony actually, you can't beat such a relaxed start to each day!
I must mention Olinda on reception who checked us in on our 1st visit and even came up to give us a tour of our room and who goes out of her way to find anything out for us and always has time for us.
The hotel may well not be in Funchal but this does not mean you need miss out on any events or celebrations as the hotel does organised trips for all major events including a fantastic gala dinner followed by coaches to Funchal to a building where you have the rooftop in private to view the spectacular New Year fireworks. Also trips to see the Xmas lights and for the Flower Festival,so you can stay in beautiful relaxed surroundings without missing anything.
The pool area is lovely and spacious with plenty of beds and a small jacuzzi.the pool is cleaned every morning and towels are provided.
We usually book b & b then take advantage of the hotel's 3 nights in the restaurant for 70 euros which includes wine and water. On other days we have a late lunch by the pool and have room service later.
There's a small hotel shop looked after by Teresa, which sells all the basics so you don't need to trek anywhere for water etc.
I could go on and on and on but suffice it to say we treat the Oasis as our bolthole and plan to return in January and say hi once more to Olinda,Bruno,Nina,Teresa,Patricia and all the rest of the staff who make our time there so special.

Just got back from a lovely relaxing week at the Hotel Oasis Atlantic, at Canico, Madeira. The weather a glorious 24 degrees, perfect for sunbathing and getting about to sea the island. The accomadation was a large, comfortable and spotlessly clean room, with a large balcony to take in the wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean and the passing cruise ships and fishing boats.

The hotel has a wonderful friendly and helpful staff from the General Manager down to the maids, who service the rooms daily. Food in the restaurants is of a high standard and the main one is buffet style so the choice is endless and varied to suit everyones taste.

The outdoor pool area is lovely, well maintained and perfect for a cooling swim, a spot of sun bathing or catching up on holiday reading. The indoor pool area is also a lovely little retreat.

We prefered to hire a car to get about to see more of the island, which the hotel arranged and offered us a good rate. They also run a free suttle bus service to Funchal, which you have to book and there are excursions available direct from the hotel.

There is some form of entertainment each evening and dancing in the main lounge. English films and news etc., on the tv in your room, snooker and table tennis in the games room. A library of books and computer area to keep in touch with the folks back home.

The locaton is right on the sea front, 2 minutes walk to the man made lido, with toilets and a sea food restaurant. Uphill there are other hotels and restaurants.

No hesitation in reccommending this hotel is you want a week away to be pampered, relax and unwind from the stresses of everyday life yet close enough to the capital Funchal to hit the high night life.

We returned last week from a great holiday to Maderia,(the weather was wet and cold and cloudy) but apart from that we enjoyed our stay at The oasis Atlantic Hotel in canico. It is a fantastic location especially if you have a hire car. I can not sing the praises of this hotel enough. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the room was large and very clean, the entertainment was varied especially rita the parrott. The food was excellent. There are also very good restaurants within a five minute walk away.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to maderia.

We (me and my wife, both thirties) stayed here 10 days end of september 2008. We made the reservation directly with the hotel by email, and everything went well, even if we arrive late in night (around 1:00 AM, local time) the room was waiting for us.
The room was very clean and spacious. The bad (even it was a twin not a double) was very good and large, and the twin part was barelly noticeable. The furniture was common, nothing luxuriant, but decent, no copmlaint about. Electrical appliances: 14 inch TV, mini-fridge, boiler for tea/cafee, hair-dryer - none of these were new, but every of them in good condition and working properly.
I recomand the hotel for people looking quietness and also I recomand staying there if you plan of renting a car. We did and it was the perfect blend. The parking is no problem around the hotel and we really enjoy the feeling to came back at the hotel in a quiet atmosfere from other the loud and agitated places (e.g. Lido).I admit we didn't spent time in the hotel (we've been twice at the pool, which by the way is a heated salt water). We preffered to have a swim in a ocean, since very close of the hotel (2 minutes walking) there is a very nice pebbly-beach (the usual in Madeira). As for the evening shows, we never atend one, since we were always in other places with our rented car. Usually we arrived by the end of the show, which seemed a little boring if you plan to stay all the nights in the hotel (same guy playing almost each evenint).
The breakfast is excellent with a very good range of food : from roasted bacon, eggs, fried potatoes, ham, cheese, fruits, jam, yogurt, cafee, tea, milk, natural juices, etc.
Bottom line - it was the perfect choice for us: quiteness, nice walking alley right near the ocean in front of the hotel, plenty parking places, very clean, spacious, good breakfast, always helpfull staff. I clearly recomand it.

Obrigado, or thank you in Portuguese for the time you have taken to write your review. We are very happy to hear that you have enjoyed your stay with us and have found our services to meet your expectations. Our location with the Ocean right in front of us it is certainly a most for guests who enjoy swimming in the sea as the temperature never goes below 19ºC.
On the entertainment side we have changed it and it is now more varied and should the guest stay in the Hotel I am certain they will appreciate this effort.
A special thank you for having chosen our Hotel and we are glad that we have contributed to your holiday's enjoyment.
kind regards
