This hotel was originally opened in 1991 but extended and modernised in 2011.

It is clean and modern with friendly helpful staff. Main meals are buffet style with plenty of variety. The food is constantly topped up so there is never a shortage of a particular item. If you like desserts you will not be disappointed! Lunch is normally waiter service at the pool bar.

The main pool is a good size and there are plenty of sun loungers so there is no need to reserve them with towels - although it seems some people cannot resist 'booking' one!

There is a room with a couple of computers and also a selection of books in several languages available for guests free use.

The beach is adjacent to the hotel but do not expect to swim from it or sunbathe on it as it is composed of very large pebbles which seem to be designed to damage ankles. [ The island is of course volcanic and as far as I am aware there are no naturally sandy beaches.]

The bedrooms are a good size, have tea and coffee making facilities as well as a fridge in which you can store your own drinks. Our bedroom and bathroom were kept immaculately clean whilst we were there.

There is a free hotel shuttle bus running into Funchal several times a day and a public bus service which stops outside the hotel also runs to Funchal. This has the advantage that it stops at the start of the cable car run and a trip on the cable car is certainly worth doing. The famous sledge rides operate from the top of the cable car run.

If you have difficulty walking be aware that the island is very hilly.

Room Tip: Rooms with a direct sea view are the most desirable but of course are the most expensive! Side sea...

We like this hotel very much. It is very clean and well run. The rooms are large and well fitted. It is best to choose a room with a full sea-view - which is spectacular. We did not eat at the hotel as the prices are like all hotel prices - rather high and there are good places to eat nearby. The pools are good and the spa is very good, with reasonable prices and offers. I had a wonderful exfoliation and massage! I also enjoyed the manicure and pedicure which I felt was good value. The gym looks very good and well stocked, tho' we did not use it! The reception staff are very pleasant and helpful. The gardens are well kept, and there is a promenade for walking/running just to the front of the hotel. Theresa runs a great shop in the hotel with prices that rival local shops. We hired a car which was a great idea as there are so many places on the island to explore and the driving is easy. There is a free hotel bus into Funchal - a useful facility as parking in Funchal is not easy. It is a very quiet hotel with little to do in the evenings, but we enjoy the quiet! A great place to stay. We will be back!

Hotel was not a four star hotel.

The rooms were cleaned very quickly and no sign of bleach or other cleaning items. Very poor cleaning compared to UK with beds not made properly and dust everywhere including cleaning the floors with the same water as they cleaned the toilet/Bathroom. Not very hygienic.

No childrens section in the dining room at all and most children did not eat much during the stay. Even the adults section of the food was always cooked in oil and always the same breakfast every morning. Dinner did not have any good quality food selection at all. Rice every night and everything else cooked in oil again. Very poor considering the amount of money to go there.

Luckily we rented a car as there is nothing to do at night as it is in the middle of nowhere and very hilly.

However the staff were very friendly and always helpful and the pool/pool area very clean.

very good hotel directly on the sea(sea views) ver confortable room, I have with my family a "studio room" with kitchenette full equipped.
Good swimming pool with sea water.
Only a point, The breakfast is very good for german, english people, but for italian there aren't
sweet things like bisquit, snacks , chocolate cream.
Reception are friendly and room are clean.
If I come back to Madeira I consider certainly this hotel.

Room:
When we arrived we found out that our room was not available due to an over-booking. We where placed in a luxury-room ("superior-type"), since we had no kitchen they provided us with three free meals and three free breakfast-vouchers until our room was available. Problem nicely solved.

Meals:

Breakfast was great, diners at the buffet-restaurants where not that good. Food was salty and tasteless. Even the bbq-night didn't make us happy, spareribs where black, chicked-kebabs where very very salty etc.

Staff:
Very friendly and helpful.

Pool etc:

Pool and property where very clean and well maintained.

Surroundings:
Not a lot to do in the close environment, you might want to hire a car to get around.

Restaurants and bars:
I can recommend the Habbeas Coppus restaurant (exit the hotel via the boulevard, go right, up the steps, go left and you will see it on you right-hand side after 100meters)

Room Tip: both the superior room and the twoo room apartment where great.

Beutiful place. The hotel is very nice. The garden is excellent. We saw the ocean partial from our room. The pool has got ocean's water. The brekfast 5*!!!!!! We loved this place. Only the return journey was not so good. The plane was cancelled, later one of them flew up, but in Praga landed, so its too late, when we were at Budapest.......

Lovely hotel with a friendly yet nonitrusive staff and management. The rooms are nice and clean, also breakfast is perfect. Haven't try the optional dinner as there is plenty of opportunity to dine out in the vicinity at reasonable prices. There's a heated outdoor swimming pool, nice spa, sauna and an indoor pool, as well as a small fitness room with TV, all free to use.

I like Madeira for levada walks so it is enjoyable to relax in a spa after a long-day workout. The location is perfect as it is close to the airport and motorway, no need to struggle the morning traffic of Funchal on daily trips. Providing of course having a rental car or taking trips organised daily by local agencies; the hotel staff is helpful at finding the trip organisers for you.

I've been to this hotel for the 3rd time, always happy with my decision, and always relatively off-season, at the end of February. Despite Madeira is relatively cold at that time compared to, say, Canary Islands, the pool is nice and warm to enjoy even in winter.

I need to remark that in winter the surroundings are relatively boring, despite numerous cafes and restaurants there is no real entertainment so I do not recommend the location for night-life activities.

Room Tip: Take Studio room with a small kitchenette. Practical.
