“Four Views Oasis, theft from hotel room”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

During our stay (cheap) jewelry was stolen from our room. We discovered this during our last evening. We were told that the hotel manager was not available and the receptionist told us that hotel personel would not steel (allthough our room door had not been tempered with and access via the balcony was not possible).
When we arrived, a whole bus load of people has just arrived. And there was only 1 person to check every one in. It took us over an hour to check in.
We had to wait for about another one and half hour before our rooms were availabe. In the meantime there was no locked room were we could store our suitcases. There is a room, close to the entrance but out of sight of hotel personel and not locked, so every one can enter.
The public bus to Funchal goes every hour. There is a hotel shuttle bus, but you have to reserve for this bus 24 hours in advance.

We came here on honeymoon. Really nice hotel. lovely staff. Gorgeous view. Buffet was quite good. Sink fell out but room not replaced! More frequent bus service would be good. If we were to go back to madeira... which is unlikely as its a bit too quiet... we would probably opt to stay in funchal just because the journey is tedious.. if your looking for a very quiet peaceful holiday this is perfect! just not for us!

We stayed at this place for a week in 2012, and liked it so much that we went back for two weeks in late May to early June 2013. As before the general standard of the hotel was very good indeed, clean and tidy, and with a single exception the staff are a delight. In particular the main restaurant staff, led by Paulo, who are super attentive and actually remembered us from our previous trip.

This time around we opted for a sea view room with balcony, and a shower rather than the bath/shower we had on our first visit. This proved a good choice. The room was a little smaller, but still nice and airy, and we were able to leave our balcony door partly open each night, and enjoy going to sleep/ waking up to the soothing sound of the nearby surf. Once or twice this resulted in my partner getting bitten by mosquitos, but that's the price you pay and there was no real harm done. All facilities worked, but Portuguese TV was still crap. No English channels were made available, other than boring news and endless pop videos. Facilities within the hotel include a seawater outdoor pool, and heated indoor pool, massage, hairdressers and nails bar, and an excellent little shop where you can get most things that are not medical. No chance of any paracetamol, for example, that is chemist only stuff. The one thing that needs attention is the Internet room, which has equipment that is frankly not fit for purpose. We used an iPad in the public areas, and found that if we sat practically next to reception, it was fine, or indoors close to the seawater pool, but anywhere else was seriously intermittent and therefore frustrating.

Our deal was three meals a day, but we typically only used two, and sometimes juts breakfast. Partly because we knew enough about the area to find our own restaurants. The 'Atlantis' just a short walk down the coast is superb. When the hotel cooks did it right, food was absolutely delightful. On a couple of occasions, it was less than we'd expected. This time around there also seemed to be a slight bias toward the German palate. Indeed, there very very few English guests, possibly due to the dire economic situation.

Hotel provided entertainment was boring and shoddy, but this will only affect visitors on packages who are not able to get out and about. If you can make your own way, even just down the coast, other establishments provide talented local singer/ musicians or other types of show, and Funchal itself is only a short bus ride or taxi ride away. The 155 Expresso stops just across the road from the hotel, takes maybe 25 minutes to get into town and costs about 2.15 euros each. A taxi will cost around 24 Euros, which is a rip-off. The taxi drivers are also extremely pushy types.

Overall, though, this is still an excellent hotel, nicely laid back and away from the hurly burly of Funchal. It deserves to be called Oasis. We will return.

We have just returned from Four Views Hotel Canico de Baixo in Madeira. The hotel is 4 stars and we had a very spacious apartment which was lovely overlooking the wonderful herb garden which each morning the Chef goes out to get herbs required for that days meals. Everywhere was spotless. We didn't go in the outdoor pool as it was too cold but the indoor pool was slightly warmer so went in there once. We were asked to go into dinner (which we bought seperately - 3 evening meals for 70 euro's) at 8 p[m as groups like Saga all went in at 6pm in one big mass. Our room was cleaned each day and the staff were lovely. Evening entertainment was on each evening which we enjoyed. Be warned though I booked a facial which was on offer at 35 euro's which stated it lasted 50 minutes and mine lasted 35 minutes. All in all the hotel was very good but we didn't like the surrounding areas where you go out of the back gate onto the promenade and walk up to the restaurants. We went with a timeshare company and had a good time apart from 3 days when the winds were very strong.

Stayed in Madeira for a fortnight- great Island, massively peaceful, stunning landscapes!
Four Views Oasis is a 4* hotel, well located, away from the bustle of Funchal but in very easy reach of the city. Situated on the southern edge of the Island, it does benefit from very warm climate conditions, and lots of sun.

Arrival was a bit disjointed- room wasn't ready when we got there, but this isn't anything new, many continental hotels have later check in times. But they looked after our luggage whilst we had a walk. Rooms were clean, a little dated but comfortable enough- including air conditioning, and marble bathroom. Unfortunately, I was located at the back of the hotel on the ground floor so didn't have a balcony or a sea facing view, but easily compromised that with spending lots of time at the pool side instead. Theres also a good heated indoor pool, which seemed to be nicely empty most times if you wanted a solitary swim. Also included sauna, the usual leisure activities, free internet (not wifi) and a small shop.

Both the restaurants (in my opinion) were not worth it at all. They seemed to suffer from the age old problem where hotel owners have tried to westernise them too much- given that Madeira is located sweetly in the North Atlantic, some local cuisine probably would have added to the hotel. I'd advise eating out more!

I know everyones expectations/standards/needs are different- so I guess to generalise, the two things this hotel needs to do is give it a refresh, and overhaul it's restaurant offerings. The rest would come- and the little touches, well thats up to the individual!

Had a great holiday, so all in all, no real complaints from me!

We have just returned from 3 weeks in this hotel, Generally it was ok but the restaurant was CHAOS !! The staff were terrific but at times were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of people trying to gain access to the dining room at 6 PM........Looked like a January Sale at Harrods !!!
We were with SAGA , but were very few in numbers and were constantly being moved to the poolside eatery.
The hotel seemed to find us somewhat of a nuisance and their energies were directed to making the GERMANS happy..... 400 + for dinner and the noise was unbearable,
I am going to ask Saga why they picked this hotel.
The staff at the hotel were excellent and did try to keep us happy !
Food was very good and plenty of it. Madeira was fantastic !!!!!!

Four Views Oasis Hotel, Canico. Maderia.

The hotel is conveniently located midway between the airport and the capital Funchal and runs a daily shuttle bus to and fro. Public rooms, restaurants, pools and corridors are spotlessly clean; bedrooms are cleaned daily and the bedding spotless. The staff are very helpful although I was surprised to be charged 50cents for a small A4 map of the area. Things must be tight? Our room 2020 was of the same level as the promenade and via the rooms sliding window/door and a security gate were able to walk straight out of the hotel grounds and onto the promenade/beach, re-entry was gained by the use of the room electronic door card via the same security gate. Outside of the room were two personal sun beds along with a table and 2 chairs, these are located on a small tiled area but directly adjacent to a lawn if you want a little quiet time away from the pool. Conveniently on the level above is the swimming pool accessed by steps just a few meters away. We stayed B&B and so can only comment of the breakfast which was plentiful with a wide choice of foods available. The location of the hotel is good with shops and restaurants within a short walk. Although we intended to visit a few different venues for meals we found “Churrascaria”, a family owned restaurant located just a few hundred metres up the road from the hotel to be so good that we returned regularly. Well if you find a good place to eat why not keep going back. Being just to the right of the roundabout near the hotel it was so convenient, especially on the evening that the skies opened with a deluge of rain.
All in all a great holiday and by the way, if you go into Fungal as I’m sure you will; don’t miss the ride of your life on the sledge toboggan run.
The only negitive comment, I would make is that the rooms and corridors could do with a bit more lighting and a few pictures or something similar on large walls and hallways would not go amiss.
Our visit was for the week 8th to 15th March 2013

Room Tip: We suffered no noise problems at all and dispite rooms on both sides being occuppied we never heard...
