Normal 4 star hotel. Rooms good and staff very good, right from cleaners to reception staff. The food however in the restaurants is overpriced and poor. The buffet which was the main restaurant was cheap meat disguised in different sauces, and a few poor over cooked vegetables, rices and pastas and the proper retaurant was really pricey with very small portions The only enjoyable meal was breakfast.
The entertainment was very poor but even if you were interested you can't hear because the oldies (who are very much in charge (saga hotel)) sit round talking and ignoring anything round about them.
The hotel is out of town and although there is a courtesy bus, in the week we were there it was full every day. My recomendation is for people to stay in Funchal and then visit other places there really isn't anything outstanding to stay there for, there is nothing there except the sea and a bus stop.

We spent 1 week here. It is right on the beach which meant lovely views on that side of the hotel. The sea could get a bit rough though and so rooms facing it did suffer a bit from the noise which was surprisingly loud. The indoor pool was too cold for me but the outside one was good. The sauna and steam rooms were lovely and the gym small but adequate. There are 3 restaurants. The largest of these served buffet style evening meals which we weren't too keen to try and the next largest seemed quite pricey. The smaller of the 3, The Trattoria, we did use a couple of times. Once for lunch and once for dinner. The meals were superb. Really beautifully cooked and served and the staff were lovely.
There was evening entertainment every evening despite us being there out of season. It was not really our taste but was enjoyed by most of the more mature visitors so may be something to bear in mind if you prefer music with a bit of get up and go. All in all though, this was a lovely place to stay with staff who will bend over backward to make your stay more enjoyable.

Room Tip: Rooms on the beach side can be a bit noisy and you can get some disturbance from stray dogs the roam...

We have stayed twice before at the Oasis in the last ten years but haven't been back since the refurbishment. The hotel is immaculate. The rooms/reception areas and pool area/gardens have all been renovated and look brand new.The staff were all equally friendly and helpful. We were given a room upgrade to sea view and what a view it is overlooking palm trees straight on to the ocean. The breakfast is excellent value with everything you could want. The bedrooms are spotlessly clean with new comfortable beds , shower/toilet and flat screen tv.Small fridge in room.Tea /Coffee supplied and bottled water for 1.75 euros a litre.Rooms have aircon units.Location of hotel is right on the seafront at Canico with excellent promenade walks right outside.Small selection of restaurants nearby including the Vila Ventura which is superb for both lunch and dinner (turn right on to the prom from the hotel and walk for approx 1/2 mile past first row of shops and cafes and you will come to it on your left hand side). The hotel offers a courtesy bus into Funchal and there is also a regular local bus service. We didn't try the evening meals at the hotel but in high season they have 3 restaurants with various meal offers which you can book on arrival. All in all an excellent stay and we shall definitely return again in the future.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room as the views are fabulous.

The hotel has beautiful location in the village of Canico de Baixo.
Taxi fare for 3 people in my group from the airport rank to the hotel was 20 euros and it only took 15 minutes. I am glad I didn't book the coach transfer.
The hotel has a free mini bus for guests to go to Funchal and back. The mini bus runs 4 times a day everyday except Sunday. It has to be booked a day in advance.
There is a local bus (number 155) ( www.eacl.pt ) that runs to Funchal.
I used this bus to get to Garajau.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a relaxing holiday in a quite location but with decent transport links to visit the local attractions too.

We have visited this Hotel regularly since it opened in 1993, each time we go we are welcomed as not only guests but as friends and all the hotel personel make you feel part of a large "family"and nothing is too much trouble to them.
We brought our grandchildren for the first time last summer, and once again we were all made to feel special
The setting of the hotel is first class, being in the quiet secluded area of Canico de Baixo overlooking the Atlantic giving you the impression that you are on a cruise ship when you are sitting on the balcony.
Transportation is first class, as the hotel provides a free bus to and from Funchal, and the local bus stops outside the hotel.
Great walking area particularly along the promenade where you can walk into the local village which has a few shops and first class restaurents, which you may like to try, but the food in the Hotel itself has a very high standard of quality and diversity.
A Happy couple from Wigan

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool have a wonderful view and get the sun all day.

We chose this hotel based on the previous reviews and it was an excellent decision. It is between the airport and Funchal (15-min. drive to both) in a sunny, friendly village: Canico. This hotel is for all those who appreciate:
- modern, friendly, appealing building and interior design
- peaceful surroundings
- absolutely excellent staff
- nice location on the beach
- free shuttle service to Funchal
- gym and wellness area for the rainy days (but most days are sunny :-)
- large rooms (we had a roughly 60 m2 family suite, it was perfect)
- spotless cleanliness in the whole hotel area and rooms
- very comfy beds with fine bedcloths
- sunny balcony with seaview
- heated external and indoor swimming pool (around 27 C in wintertime)
- hearty, good-tasting breakfast with sparkling wine
- excellent buffet lunch or dinner for an affordable price
- nice, quiet clientele
In one word it is a PERFECT hotel, and it definitely seemed better than the neighboring (and more expensive) five-star Riu Palace Hotel. Four Views Oasis is a perfect value for money.

The nearly two-kilometer-long promenade in front of the hotel is a perfect place for strolling or jogging, and cat-lovers can spend some time with the roughly 20 cats along the way (if you don't like them, don't worry, they do not come to you if you don't call them). There are a few steps at one end of the promenade (leading to supermarkets and restaurants, one of them is run by a lovely russian family and offers tasty food) and a beach on its other end with a single fish restaurant.

The weather in December was quite good with a couple of cloudy/lightly rainy/windy days (max temperature was 18-19 C) and a few beautifully sunny ones (max daliy temp was well over 20 C), and even the nights were not so cold, but a jacket is needed for the evening time.

On a cloudy day it is a good idea to rent a car. there are several options from the reception till local rent-a-car offices, the usual rental cost is 40-45 €/day with full insurance and 200 € deposit). Or for a half-day tour sit on the bus 155a (stops very near the hotel) and go to Garajau (10 minutes ride, ticket can be purchased on the bus, costs 1,30 €). A 15-minute walk downhill leads to a Christ-statue (similar to Corcovado, but much smaller) on a cliff, with an excellent panorama, and from a local crag there is a funicular down to the Garajau Beach which is a very spectacular one (2-minute ride, costs 2 €.). It is useful to return to the hotel by taxi (usually available at the parking place), the cost is 10 €.

The hotel's restaurant is lovely and offers a decent 4-star catering, its staff is hard-working and friendly. The breakfast offers everything one may wish, from fresh fruits through cold and hot dishes till sparkling wine. The buffet lunch of the hotel is a very good value for money (12,50 €, excluding drinks) it is rich and very tasty. Gluten-free bread and cookies are provided upon previous request. If you wish to have dinner in the hotel, it offers several options and 3-nights promotions as well (prices range between 23 and 30 €, including some drinks). Eating out fresh fish or local food either in Canico (15-min. walk from the hotel) or in Funchal is another option. Prices are friendly, we usually payed between 10 to 30 €/person for a dinner, depending on the place and choice (but we are not big eaters in the evening time).

The biggest advantage - at least for us - of this hotel is that there are NO cockroaches. We saw only one on the promenade, but none in the hotel or in our room (which is an impossible dream in the cockroach-invaded Tenerife but also in Funchal hotel area there were definitely more of them than here).

All in all: an appealing, modern, excellent hotel in a peaceful place. A smart decision to book here, we will definitely come back and recommend it to everyone, except to young people who prefer going out and have a more vivid place with parties.

Room Tip: The pool and sea-view rooms get sun all the day.

We spent Christmas in Madeira which was a very enjoyable experience - it was warm enough for shorts and t-shirt on Christmas Day! The hotel was very comfortable - newly refurbished, very clean with a frienly helpful staff. We were self-catering but there are three reastaurants in the hotel and it is very close to plenty of local restaurants. The room was very comfortable with a view over the bay the the Deserted Islands. We would watch the sun rise over the islands each day. We had hired a car but the hotel's (free) mini bus or the (cheap) local bus service were very good and we could probably got by using those; when we walked the levadas we saw people using the buses.
Madeira is a lovely island, truly the Garden Island and well worth visiting.

Room Tip: We paid extra for an ocean view but the side view looked okay. The top floor was very quiet. There a...
