Yet another great Riu hotel – wide choice of, and always good food – plentiful drinks – attentive service in all areas – friendly staff – plenty of sunbeds – comfortable room. The WiFi was the best we’ve ever found in a hotel – fast speed and available throughout the complex – both inside and out. We can but agree with all the positive comments of the other reviewers - one can always be sure that a stay at a Riu hotel will be worth it.

My only minor criticisms (other than the weather – wet – but not the hotel’s fault), would be the ‘speciality’ restaurant, and the sound system. The speciality restaurant had good food – lots of it – and served by friendly staff – but this restaurant had the atmosphere of a swimming pool – tiled walls, and noisy even though there were only a few tables – not on a par with most of the other speciality/a la carte restaurants at other Riu hotels.

The entertainment is – like most of hotels of this level – acceptable but nothing to write home about – a nightly speciality act and the resident group for dancing afterwards. However, it was spoilt by a sound system that focussed the sound in the centre of the room, leaving the people at the edges struggling to hear. It needs to be beefed up a bit…..

My wife and I stayed at this excellent hotel for two weeks in March. We had to wait until now before we could write another review. Now for the many regular guests, The hotel manager has left the hotel and transferred to another RIU hotel in Berlin. The very nice lady who was the assistant manager is now the new hotel manager, and we think RIU has made an excellent choice. The hotel is still first class in every department and as usual the food is very nice. The only things I think are missing is at lunchtime,a curried sauce for the rice and a bolegnese for the pasta and it would be perfect. Other than that we will be back.

Room tip: Pay for a side sea view room and ask for a morning or afternoon sun on balcony.

This is our first time in Madeira, and a long time since we have been all inclusive. The staff and management are wonderful, all seem to work as a team, and can speak so many languages. Our waiter in the evening should be personally congratulated as he is a credit to the Rhiu chain and his country!
There are some little niggles, our room was on the ground floor but very dark! Other than that it was spotless and very comfortable .
The food in the dining room was great, lots of choice, as were the drinks, we never had an empty glass. The weather wasn't great , but still found plenty to do. Recommend the trips to the west and east of the island. Booked with a small company just up the hill from the hotel, small mini bus so much more personal than a huge coach, and could access the more difficult roads. A great holiday , remembered mostly because of the high level of service, from the exceptional staff .

We recently spent a fabulous week at the Riu Palace and from the moment we arrived the hotel staff made sure we enjoyed every aspect of our holiday.
The hotel is well laid out and the dIning rooms never felt too busy. The all inclusive option was faultless. The food quality and choice was consistently good. The drinks were as expected, lots of choice so it was a good chance to try a few new cocktails and get to find new favourites.
The rooms are spacious and cleaned daily to a high standard. We often came back to find our bath mat in the shape of a bird which was a nice touch!
Plenty of sun loungers and no need to save beds with towels. Waiters will bring drinks orders to your sun-beds but you are not allowed food which means the pool area stays clean.
Entertainment in the show bar is a little dated but with lots of nationalities to cater for, it would be hard to get it right for everyone. The early evening piano bar is a nice touch as you can have a drink and listen to piano and sax player before dinner.
A thoroughly relaxing holiday and one we would recommend.

Room tip: Higher floors have better views.

Stayed here between the 10th & 17th March 2017 for joint birthdays. We could not have chosen a better place to stay or celebrate our birthdays. Located in a quiet area of Canico on the sea front, the hotel is an excellent place to unwind. The staff are attentive without being intrusive, the food is buffet style with plenty of variety & a dedicated vegetarian section, with all the food being freshly prepared & nicely presented. Evening buffet also featured themed evenings such as Portuguese and Sushi along with speciality desserts. On arrival the hotel definitely had the "wow" factor & was tastefully presented with chandeliers & a magnificent floral arrangement in the foyer of the hotel. Our room was large, with built in wardrobes providing plenty of storage space, a balcony with chairs & a table, which overlooked the tennis court & ocean. Everywhere was spotlessly clean from the outside of the hotel, to the pool areas, to the lounge bar etc. The staff were faultless-always ready to help with a smile, very efficient & nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. There is a shuttle bus which runs from the hotel into Funchal every half hour or there is a bus stop outside the hotel (timetable available at Reception). Evening entertainment was a mixture of authentic Madeiran cultural entertainment mixed with easy listening groups to dancers.
Besides mentioning those who were "front of house" i.e. Reception, restaurant staff, waiters & waitress & Chef's who worked relentless to ensure that everything runs smoothly a mention needs to be given for those who work behind the scenes i.e. the cleaners; kitchen staff, gardeners & the maintenance staff who are often forgotten but play a pivotal roll in ensuring that along with the "front of house staff" standards of the hotel are maintained. We would definitely recommend this hotel and will be visiting again soon.
