Pombal was just a place to stay the night over on our way north, and small and unassuming town as it is, we didn't expect much by way of accommodation. Were we in for a surprise! From the outside, the hotel, situated within a commercial building facing the main square, looked no different from any small town building, low, gray, nondescript, about a few decades old. The entrance which is through the commercial center evokes nothing interesting either. But as soon as you enter, you notice right way that it is new, it is spanking clean, and stylishly designed but discreet.

The bedroom was large, as well as the bathroom. The closets were large and well-built. The bed was king-sized and comfortable, pillows with just the right firmness. Wifi was good, and TV had a good range of channels available. These 2 were important, as there was really nothing to see or enjoy in town, quiet as it was, that evening. The bathroom was large, well-lighted, and with a spa shower. The facilities and furnishings in the bedroom and bathroom were all of excellent quality and workmanship (no chipped and cheap tiles, for example). It was obvious that the hotel area occupying the building was newly renovated from its previous purpose -- perhaps for offices or apartments. You can still see that from the size of the room and the bathroom. Having stayed in so many hotels in many countries, including in luxury chains, we noted the exceptional quality of the construction, both of the material and the workmanship, which was quite surprising for a small town place knowing that even big-name hotels have sometimes compromised on these. We commented on this to the receptionist when we were checking out, and were told that the owner was a builder -- so there you go.

We had a room overlooking the square so had an excellent view of the church and the goings-on in the evening of the arrival. We had first row view of the start of the religious procession that was taking place that night (it was Lent). Even with the location of our room, it was quiet, and since the hotel is set back a bit from the road, the noise of cars was hardly audible.

Breakfast was okay, nothing exceptional. What was missing though were fruit and juice. Don't know if this was typical, but certainly not served on the Saturday we were there.

The receptionist was very helpful and really nice. We had a bit of a car problem and she offered to help the next day, if we thought we might need some assistance (in the end, we didn't). On check-out, I was offered a nicely wrapped bag of choco-covered almonds, a common Easter treat here in Portugal. We left with a smile on our faces, and a silent promise to ourselves to return should we be in the area again.

Don't expect luxury and pampering and other diversions on offer, nothing fancy here -- this place simply provides bed and breakfast in a pleasant atmosphere, but they provide them with quality that surpasses many other places with flashier surroundings, and far cheaper too.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing the square

THE BEST: Rooms nice and comfortable. At night, the silence of the surrounding was excellence. If you like horses, there are some near the Hotel.
THE WORST: The entrance to the Parking is too difficult.

We arrived in Pombal as a family on our route North from Lisbon to near Porto. It was simply a watering hole for the night, to rest up and complete our journey the following day. Instead, we had a delightful experience, from the warmth of the greeting at reception, through very comfortable rooms, to the splendid breakfast the following day. It was the very best of Portuguese hospitality, comfortable but not expensive, and we will be trying to engineer a similar stopover next year.

Room Tip: Ask for one looking out onto the square

Hotel located in a peaceful square with a nice church in front and a small city park, right in the city centre. Spacious rooms with a large window and balcony with flowers. Modern decoration, very functional, large bathroom. Nice and friendly staff, very attentive specially at breakfast. Very complete and diverse breakfast, including several kinds of fresh fruits, home made cakes, top local pastry, different kinds of bread and toasts, cheeses, and so on. An excellent value for the money and a top hotel in the region.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with balcony and view to church.

Sometimes, one can't really trust the hotel classification. Not so rarely, a 4 star hotel will turn out to be a 3 star or less worth...
Having sayd that, this hotel is DEFINITELY a 4****. Though the rooms not very "spacy", it's more than enough.
The design is modern with straight lines and good taste.
The decoration is "stylish" and enjoyable.
The room was clean though the shower towels are kind of small...
Nice view to the city center.
The breakfast was just amazing. Plenty of diversity and again a 4****+.
If you are traveling and need to stay between Lisbon and Porto, you can chose this small city over Coimbra. Cheaper and quiet.
Atention if you want to park a car in the garage: DRIVER SKILLS ARE MANDATORY!!!!!!

Room Tip: Room facing towards the city center

This hotel was an excellent stopover when at malpensa. We recently stayed twice, in and out of malpensa airport when on our Italian lakes holiday. Hotel was all that you could need and was clean efficient and staff were excellent. Shuttle bus to and from airport and pizzeria was most helpful and efficient. We were able to leave a suitcase for a weekend until we returned and when we wanted to go to rental car area of airport they drove us to the door and showed us where it was. Highly recommended to everyone

I liked the hotel, nice and comfortable room with flowers on the balcony and nice view over the park in front of the hotel and a beautiful church.
Professional and friendly staff, nice (modern) crystal chandeliers in the lobby.
There was a nice breakfast buffet on the top floor and I saw that in the summertime there is a possibility to have breakfast on the roof terrace.
On the other side of the road one of the best and stylish restaurants from Pombal, shops around and taxi's in front of the hotel. Without a doubt worth trying and I will go back when I am in that area.
