“Find this place- it's worth it!”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

Beautiful place, excellent service, helpful without being obtrusive, a brilliant place for a restful holiday in an interesting scenic area, a relaxing stop on a tour, or a group retreat. We came at first as a stop on the way back to the airport, and just had to come back for longer. It was worth it.

Room Tip: We have been before, met many people, and have never heard any negative comments about any rooms.

We stayed at the Pousada on the last night of a wonderful Portugal vacation, and it was a very good way to finish up. Perhaps due to the weather (cold and rainy) or the time of year ( early May) we almost had the place to ourselves, which made it a little spooky. But the service was good to excellent, the rooms were grand and our dinner was superb. Heartily recommended!

If you have a GPS device, you should be able to find the hotel quite easily if you enter the co-ordinates. it is up a very steep narrow road (look for the sign on the corner), but not far from the main village road. Very courteous and helpful reception staff. Beautiful large bedrooms with lovely views. Breakfast OK. Dinner much too expensive (you have been warned!). The kitchen staff also had difficulty in acknowledging that the two steaks we had been served were not what we had ordered - they should have been veal, but one was clearly beef rather than veal. Check out restaurants in nearby villages, for food at half the price and twice the quantity.

We have stayed in this Pousada for Easter holiday and we really enjoyed the place. The convent is beautiful, with a very pleasant service. The only points where I think there is a room for improvement is the breakfast, I would like to see more variety, especially with fresh fruits, fresh juice, more variety of cold cuts, cheeses etc. and kids activities/babysitting. Other than that, really enjoyable place.

It could be a fantastic "hotel de charme". The building itself is very beautifull with interesting solutions from the architetctural point of view. the staff do what they can to make our stay pleasant but the direction doesn't enforce rules of common sense in any hotel like "DO NOT DISTURB OTHER GUESTS REST".
Can anybody imagine children running in and out of the restaurant during all dinner and more incredible those guests (fathers) think this beaviour is normal??!!!!
One evening, just before dinner, arriving from a long journey we found the bathroom near the bar in such conditions that I cann't write without desrespect for TA guidelines...
I did point these and other problems to the reception staff but they couldn't do much because they said "You know how children are...", and yes, I know how educated children sould be...
I tried to speak with the Hotel manager but he was absent most of the time and therefore I never meet him.
We stayed there 4 nights and the last 2 were a living hell !

Without doubt, Pousada Convento do Desagravo is a very special hotel -- elegant, beautiful, peaceful, serene. It's architecture is divine, its landscape tranquil and wholesome, its facilities immaculate. How many hotels can offer a balcony of the size one finds only in palaces? And when one visits that balcony, see a terrain of rolling hills so lovely? The staff, too, is attentive and caring; the food served at dinner delectable; and the quiet of the night restoring. This, in sum, is a very special place.

The people here were great. We arrived late because it is a bit tough to find if you are not familiar with the area. Felt some pressure to book a reservation with them for dinner. If you are looking for quiet, this place is great but there is not a lot to do around the area. We were travelling with another family and they did not get the room allocations right at first which was stressful having just been in a car for the better part of the day and the kids were anxious to get in the pool!! The view is stunning - the best part of the pousada

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the vineyards
