First impressons count and the friendly, efficient check in and the spotless room were a great start. The owners and the staff at the D'Annunzio are first class; they are helpful, friendly and genuine and really made us feel welcome.
The pool area is lovely and relaxing although it isn't great for children. Snacks are served in this area and the staff always make sure that you are ok for drinks - the draft beer is lovely as is the Hugo 'cocktail'. The sunbeds are in good supply but not particularly comfortable - we bought some foam mats from a nearby shop which helped.
Now for the food and my first negative, namely the breakfast we always found something to eat and on one occasion paid a couple of Euros for bacon and eggs which were nice. On the whole though there is room for improvement for example being in Italy you would expect some nice bread but ony cheap white sliced is available.
On half board you can have have lunch instead of dinner and although we found nothing wrong with dinner we preferred this as the food seemed a little nicer and the 7pm sitting is a little early for us. There is a daily special for dinner and plenty of alternatives if you want something else. The portions are very generous and both the pizzas and the ice creams are delicious.
Now for the second negative, the hotel has its own part on the sandy beach which is easily spotted because its the only one with deckchairs whereas the others have a mixture of deckchairs and sunbeds. We are beach people and found this to be poor.
The resort itself is not typically Italian but it has a good vibe and unlike for example Turkey and Tunisia you feel safe when you go out, you are not hassled to death and there are good shops as well as the ones selling tat. There are plenty of nice bars, ice cream places and places to eat.
We went to Venice under our own steam which was great and is a must do.
All in all we had a really nice time and would probably go back but 7-nights is just about right.
Our biggest criticism is reserved for Thomson we saved over £160 by flying from Gatwick rather than Manchester (which is much closer to us) how on earth can they justify such a huge price difference? The journey to Gatwick is a pain!
The rep in resort (Rory) is really helpful and honest, and top marks for the aircraft which were modern and comfortable.
