Just got back from this place a few days ago. First of all, don't worry, this hotel and resort is excellent!
After a short direct coach transfer from the airport which took about 35 mins, we arrived at the hotel late morning and the reception staff were ready waiting for us and quickly gave us all our room keys. We too met the so called rude woman - she wasn't rude at all, just had a bit of a hard nosed face, but once you say hello she was very friendly and extremely helpful! I'd rather they quickly and efficiently hand us our keys on arrival rather than wait for ages whilst they check us in!
The hotel isn't quite 4 star by our UK ratings, and this is apparent once you get to your rooms which are a little tired but extremely clean. However it's the little things that make this a great destination and also the staff that make it a great holiday. Things like the chamber maid waiting to clean our room and change our towels whilst we were at breakfast so as not to disturb us, the lovely smiles and greetings from most staff as you pass them, the chef recognising after a day that we were vegetarian so every evening pointing out the vegi dishes, the receptionist giving us loads of useful local info on where to go, see, do etc and so on.
Some good points:
Excellent location, right on the beach and behind the strip
Free deck chairs and parasol on the beach
Good quality food and plenty of choice
Excellent breakfast again with plenty of choice
Nice to have a bit of formality for the evening dinner - created a nice atmosphere and a change from the "free for all" you often get
Nice pool and plenty of outdoor space to sit around
Lovely weekly management cocktail party which includes entertainment, drinks and snacks
Great staff including the owner ("the old man" who apparently stares at everyone - which he doesn't) and his daughter (the apparent "rude lady" - which she isn't) Fair play to the fella for overseeing breakfast and dinner every single day making sure all is up to standard. Smile and say hello, he'll normally smile and say hello back.....if he doesn't it's probably because he can't hear you as he is getting on a bit! It's clear they both work hard and take pride in their business!
Some areas of weakness:
Bar area out the way and not really used, so no entertainment - but the strip has plenty bars and lots of atmosphere so no problem
Top floor rooms are tight, but the nice lady swapped our room for us after one night when there was availability
3 euro for a lounger by the pool - not the end of the world
All in all, considering the price you pay, a great holiday and if you're after a beach holiday with the odd nearby attraction (Venice), and a lively (but not rowdy) strip with you could do a lot worse!
