Never eat so bad.
Service was terrible....in the meaning you get no service.
We needed to ask for the menu, because they were exposing it just talking...but we wanted to see prices.
They showed the menu at the end after 15 min: almost 80% of the meals was not available.
Atmosphere? No one.
Pasta? Overcooked.
Yes prices are low...but you get for what you play for.
Low quality, few choices...

Lovely and welcoming owners, and the food was good. Could however benefit from not having the tv on, but that might just be our preferance.

We had the most wonderful lunch here. The fish dishes were excellent and the wine suggested with our meal was perfect. Our waiter made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant; very polite, charming and his English is good. The decor was simple without being austere. The washrooms are very clean.

Don't judge it by it's deceptive décor (a touch t & g 60's), your going there to have a delicious meal served with house wine in a friendly way.
Starters a delight, my husband had a wonderful venison stew and I roasted chicken, duck and rabbit, all well cooked and full of flavour.
A great find in a lovely town, not to be missed

If Il Grottino is listed in Trip Advisor as the number 2 ranking restaurant in Citta de Castello, then I'd hate to think what awaits any diner at numbers 3, 4, 5, 6...

We arrived at 8.45pm to a nearly empty restaurant. It took 10 minutes for the waitress to bring us a menu and clean our table by flicking the breadcrumbs on to my lap. Another 15 minutes before she came back to take our order off the single 1-page photocopied menu. We were told the items with a tick next to them were available. This meant more than half the menu was unavailable and we were limited to pasta only - no mains, bar two, were in stock. We ordered our pasta (grumpy by this stage) and were told that one of our choices, the pasta amatriciana, was also not available. By 9.40pm my daughter, age 6, was still waiting for her food, a simple pasta with tomato, and was nearly eating the table from hunger.

When the food finally arrived an hour after we got there, it was the the most tasteless Italian experience I have ever had. I don't know how they did it. How do you mess up a simple carbonara? They did, and it tasted like sawdust on cardboard, utterly bland. My daughter's penne was dry and sauceless and my mother's penne was similarly and strangely without any flavour whatsoever. I tried to cheer my daughter up with the offer of ice cream, but was told by the very friendly owner that they didn't have any. If anything is going to mark the demise of an Italian restaurant, it would be the lack of any form of ice cream.

Avoid this place like the plague. Deeply, deeply disappointed.
