“Breathtaking!”
Reviewed June 5, 2012

Poggio all'Olmo is always on my mind. Me and my husband came here for the first time eight years ago. We have returned a couple of times since then, and we even got married here. We're always longing back to this wonderful place. The surroundings and the views are breathtaking, the old Tuscany farmhouse with all the olive trees and the all the herbs give a genuine feeling, the pool area is quiet and lovely and the host Francesca is really sweet.
It's only a few minutes to the charming little village Lamole, where you'll find the great restaurant Ristoro di Lamole. Poggio is also very close the nice village Greve.
Poggio all' Olmo is a very beautiful, peaceful and indeed extraordinary place.

First the host, Francesca, was such a delight. She was so helpful, happy, and just a delight to be around. Other true benefits include the view, the kitchen in the room, the pool, and Francesca's Chianti! The villa is close to Greve, one of my absolute favorite villages of Chianti , close to Panzano - another beautiful village, and Lamole a fabulous restaurant. We had a marvelous time relaxing at pool side in the evenings and watching the sunset and then watching the fireflies under the moon light. I can not wait to come back. My only two pieces of advice: you will need to ask for your trash to be removed, if you do not ask it will not happen. Also internet only works if you are in the kitchen - but that was ok with us - we were trying to avoid civilization and keep our mind on vacation.

Room Tip: I understand the apartment rooms are preferred, but our stay in the main part of the building were a...

Strengthened by the warm and active hospitality of Francesca this place on earth will give you the real Tuscany feeling. The 'cantina' with oil and wine yards has a breathtaking view around, in the evenings beautifull, colourfull sunsets. Enjoy your stay here with a large swimming pool, and don't forget the homemade Chianti and olive oil. From this beautifull place you can see amazing old cities as Radda, Volpaille, Firenze and Siena. Make walks and bike trails, and feel the sadness when you have to leave Francesca and her exquisit 'cantina con bel vista'.

Room Tip: We've had an appartment (perfect!), so we're able to make our own 'prima collazione e ce...

First things first, i wept as we drove away from our apartment zt Poggio allOlmo...not only is it a beautiful, peaceful place to stay, it is near to all the most wonderful places, known and unknown, in Tuscany....easy to get to anywhere, yet wonderful to cime "home" at the end of an adventurous day.
Yes, the driveway to Poggio all'olmo is terrible, but even in our tiny Fiat, we had no problem rocking our way to the wonderful agriturismo. Because this is a working farm, like all agriturismos must be, make sure to be timely and check in between the agreed upon span of hours or you will find a locked gate...nice security, but frustrating if the charming owner, Francesca, is out in the vineyard or with the olive trees or in town.
We stayed in the first floor apartment which was huge...could have slept 2 children on the futon in the living room while having the big, cozy bedroom to ourselves. The bathroom is really nice, with bidet, toilet, sink and...well...snug...shower stall...if you are "supersized" it will not be a comfortable experience...although my husband, who is a size L in American clothes -- 6' tall, 190 pounds, found it do-able.
There is a complete kitchen, with small fridge, four burner stove and plenty of pots, pans, dishes and silverware...no oven or microwave, but a grill outside. Bring anything you would want for ingredients, as none are provided (salt was on hand, but that's about it)....but that just gives you a great excuse to shop at the nearby Co-op in greve or, better yet, go to the weekly market in either Greve or a nearby town.
Francesca is soooo kind and eager to help and has plenty of English to communicate...sure, it might take a half a second to understand each other, but No Problem!
Watch the sun set over the fantastically beautiful rolling Tuscan hills from your private little patio, while listening to the cuckoos call and suspend the rest of your life for a little while and just BE in Tuscany. Ciao Francesca...you are wonderful.

Room Tip: Francesca offers rooms I her house as well as renting out two small apartment type rooms in an adjac...

Where to start... well, first of all, this setting is exactly what you think of when you close your eyes and imagine Tuscany. The same movie locations from Much Ado About Nothing and Under The Tuscan Sun? They were shot in these same hills. The scenery is simply stunning and Poggio all'Olmo is the ideal location for ANY Tuscan holiday! ABSOLUTE PERFECTION! Having visited both Rome and Venice on the same trip, this was by far the highlight of the vacation.
We spent 4 days and 3 nights at Poggio all'Olmo and could not have been happier with our choice of accommodations. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are comfortable and well equipped and the owner, Francesca, is the most gracious and friendly host you could ever hope for! She greeted us with a huge smile and did whatever she could to make sure we had everything we needed whether it was advice on dining, attractions or wine tours (she recommended Vignamaggio and it was amazing!) or how to get around the area like a true local.
Two of the nights, we were able to eat in courtesy of the small but 100% useable kitchen in our apartment. We went to a local market and picked everything we needed for a wonderful Tuscan dinner and ate outside on the patio while the sun was setting over the gorgeous Tuscan hills. It was about as utopic and dreamy as you could imagine. Francesca came out after dinner and offered us some of her homemade Limoncello made from the lemons she grows on the estate's grounds! She prepares a yummy breakfast for you each day with plenty to eat: eggs, yogurt, meats, cheeses, pastries, fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee or tea.
I've been lucky enough to have stayed in some world-class hotels and resorts (Ritz Carlton Aspen, Grand Hyatt Kauai, and Amangani Jackson Hole for example) and Poggio all'Olmo ranks as one of the all-time greats. Pure, authentic, Tuscany like you always imagine it would be.
I could go on and on about how perfect it was, but you really just need to see it for yourself.
If you want to LIVE a Tuscan vacation and experience your Italian dreams as reality, don't delay. Book your stay with Francesca immediately. Thanks you for such a great time. We cannot wait to go back!

Room Tip: Any of them will be fantastic! All have terrific views and offer wonderful peace and quiet.

If you want to pretend you went to Tuscany, then you should just check into a fancy hotel in Florence. If you want to breathe Tuscany into your soul, then I suggest you book your reservation at Poggio all’Olmo. The five times we returned to Poggio all’Olmo should testify to the fact that it is pure bliss. When I first explored the idea of going to Italy, it was after too many summers of having to bundle up with a wool sweater in Northern Europe. The warmth of Italy called out to me, and I answered.

I began by searching the normal guide books, Frommer’s, Fodor’s and Rick Steve’s Europe Guide. They gave an informative overview and good tips on navigating around Italy; however, to discover a treasure I would have to dig deeper. I spent countless hours reading travelogues from people who visited Italy, and I knew I found gold when I read about Francesca and the Poggio all’Olmo. The description discussed the rustic setting, the tranquility of its location, and the nature of the accommodating host.

It was all true.

There is something about the drive leading onto the property, the terraced landscape cascading with grape vines and olive trees, the arrangement of the buildings nestled cozily together, the pool, and most of all, Francesca who is most attentive and sincere. The Poggio all’Olmo is not too large or too small; it is just the right size for luxuriating in a somewhat intimate setting. There are other guests, but no one is loud or pushy. It is civilized in its appointments and in its mood. You can think about pleasure and rest at Poggio all”Olmo, and no matter where my travels in Italy may take me in the future, the majority of my stay will always be at Poggio all”Olmo.

Many times, we were forced to lodge elsewhere for a few days until the Poggio all’Olmo became available, but those places lacked one thing that Poggio all’Olmo has: balance. Poggio all’Olmo strikes the perfect balance one needs to become part of the Tuscan hills. It is superbly situated between Florence and Sienna. You can easily explore many famous places, but you can also wander. You can meander through the vineyards, taking long walks from one town to the next. You can zoom into town at Greve in Chianti, or dine one kilometer away at Lamole di Lamole.

When you return to wherever you came from, you will remember the magnificence of Florence, but you will dream of Poggio all’Olmo.

We spent two nights at Poogio all'Olmo being the only guests, which probably made the stay even more fantastic and relaxing. Francesca the owner is a wonderful discrete guestkeeper. We stayed in one of the two rooms poggio all'olmo offers. We had our own private kitchenette so we were able to prepare a nice pasta dinner which we ate on the wonderful terrace outside overlooking a valley full of vinyards. It was beautiful. In terms of infrastructure there is an excellent restaurant nearby in a town called Lamolle. The food and the service were excellent. Oh and not to forget, Poggio all'Olmo also offers a wonderful clean pool to take a dip whenever you feel like you need to cool down. The only critique that I can offer is the quality of the bed and the matrace, both need an update.
