We toured Castello Di Verrazzano with three other couples and had a wonderful and educational time. If we were to return to Florence, we would return to this winery in a New York minute! Our host, Gillian, who is also a sommelier, was a delight. She picked us up at our hotel and gave us a fascinating lecture about Tuscany and the making of Chianti wine. The 500-acre castle estate, purchased in the year 700 , was breathtaking. The fact that it was the birthplace of Giovanni da Verrazzano, the discoverer of New York Harbor and for whom the Verrazzano Bridge is named, made it even more special to this New Yorker. At the Castle we had a fabulous lunch and wine tasting with lots of unpretentious laughs. Gillian was our designated driver as she returned us to our hotel with a glow of appreciation for Italian wine and hospitality!
