Villa Fabbroni
Reviewed September 26, 2011

Hidden in the hills of Tuscany is the Villa Fabbroni. It is not for the faint of heart to find but once you arrive you won’t regret your decision to stay in a century old villa with the hills and hospitality. (Head north off the main road into San Polo one block east of The Coop grocery store. Don’t fret when you reach the dirt road because you are on the right track.)

Stefano and Sergio make your stay a very pleasurable one. I highly recommend availing yourself to the services including daily fresh bread, dinners on the weekends at their onsite restaurant and especially of the Italian cooking class. Learn the secrets to savory Italian dishes and then sit down to a feast of your own culinary accomplishments with nice local Chianti. Make your toasts and dig in. Well worth it.

The accommodations allow you to prepare a little breakfast, pack a lunch (don’t forget the rest of that bottle of Sangiovese) and set out on your day to visit the many quaint surrounding small villages of Chianti to get a taste of the real Tuscany. Sights and shopping abound. Volterra, Greve and Panzano are a few of the must-sees within half hour driving distance to the villa. At the end of the day it is back to the villa to chat about the beauty of Italy, have some dinner and close out your day with a glass of your favourite red watching the sunset.

Sergio and Stefano also offer their own wine, olive oil, honey, etc. all at very reasonable prices. Plan on having dinner with Dario the butcher in Panzano on one of your nights where Sergio and Stefano are not preparing one for you back at the villa. Grassina is a small town to the west and has everything you will need for your stay from shopping, butcher shops, a grocery store and fabulous local pastries.

The serenity and scenery of Chianti should be enough to capture you but this area of Central Italy has so much more to offer. Villa Fabbroni is a fantastic launching point and home base for all your countryside adventures and explorations. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The rooms get a little warm so the lower level is cooler.

I went to the Villa Fabroni with my parents and sister for 2 weeks and had a fantastic time. The villa is very remote which took a couple of days for the city girl I am to get used to but once I did I found it very relaxing. The owners Sergio and Stefano really make this place. They are very helpful on providing info about the area and manage to strike a balance of being available without infringing in the slightest on your privacy. Although the villa and apartments were full while we were there, it felt very private and there are a number of places to sit and have dinner or a drink as a family. Definately have dinner in the restaurant when you can - the food is superb, really special, and we also consumed a lot of the red wine which they make! Add to this a very cute bulldog called Oscar, stunning views and spotlessly clean accommodation and you have a truely special holiday.

Don't try to get there without a car and GPS. We took a bus to Greve in Chianti only to find that there were no taxis available. Our waiter called his father, who spoke no English, He got us there after stopping for directions several times. It was a wonderful week. The meals we ate there were beyond description served in a magnificent brick vaulted dining room. The restoration has been sensitively done and the owners take good care of the property. All the bedrooms are very large most with en suite toilets. It's location was ideal for our purposes since we did a lot of sightseeing. In our group of 9 family members all were very pleased except for internet access which was not dependable. I think we all will return,

Room Tip: The Villa is a series of apartments that are combined for different size groups. Be sure and check...

I had my wedding at Villa Fabbroni in October 2007. Stefano and Sergio were the perfect hosts! It was magical and truly a fairy tale fit for a prince and princess.. there even was a white horse walking around the property. The location is spectacular, secluded and breathtaking. It far exceeded our expectations. My husband and several guests are big guys (6'8, 6'5, 6'4) and the accommodations were excellent! The food was fabulous, the wine divine and the people unforgettable. We arrived as strangers and left as friends. We can't wait to return! When you go, give Raoul and big hug from us! He is the best dog ever! Please also make a day trip to Siena on Auto 222. It's just like the movies.. I swear!

In a magnificent setting high in the Tuscan hills, Villa Fabbroni was our home for a week while we took cooking classes and explored the countryside. Sergio and Stefano were generous, warm and kind hosts, with a passion for the local produce and a talent for cooking it. Their food and hospitality was absolutely wonderful, and nothing was too much trouble - from booking tours and trains to assisting with directions and recommending local attractions. The Villa itself is full of character - rustic and rambling, with appealing artefacts both inside and out. The gardens and patios were favourite spots to relax with a glass of wine. The large, vaulted restaurant resembled a cave. We stayed in a section that had four bedrooms with ensuites and a communal lounge/dining/kitchen. The double rooms were very large, but the twin rooms were on the small side. We had a few problems with a blocked shower and the washing machine in the kitchen area. The rooms were not serviced, although fresh towels were available. These were minor issues, however, as the charm of the Villa and its hosts, and the beautiful, relaxing environment provided a memorable, five-star experience.

We stayed here with a group of 25 in the end of May for our friend's wedding and we cannot say enough about it. Stefano and Sergio have restored a wonderful villa and have made a very comfortable and inviting home away from home. I didn't want to leave! The apartments are gorgeous and the environment is stunning. You could ask for more- the food was Italian at it's finest!

As part of a four week stay in Italy, undertook a cooking course at Villa Fabbroni. We joined up with a group from Perth Australia for a great week of learning about local produce and learning to cook the four courses. Lots of opputunities to get your hands dirty and the enjoyment of eating what we produced.
Hosts Sergio and Stefano made us feel at home and did a fantastic job. Great location to venture out in the country side and then return for evening drinks watching the sun sets over the valley.
You will need a car and GPS as the villa is at the end of a windy dirt road just out of San Polo.
A great week with good company and great hosts. Sad to leave.
