“Excellent B & B”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

We stayed at B & B Umberto for one night and found the owners extremely welcoming and hospitable. Giovanni went out of his way to make our brief stay comfortable, even driving us to the Villa Romana, and then to the bus stop the following morning. Our room was very comfortable and Giovanni prepared an early, very tasty, breakfast for us before we left. His enoteca is well worth a visit! This is a great place to stay and is well located. We highly recommend it.

We had a great stay here, arriving in Piazza Armerina without a pre booking we drove around and followed the signs to Umberto 33. Giovanni came up from his shop in the piazza and showed us to our room and helped my husband up the stairs with our very heavy suitcases. Breakfast was very enjoyable. We went and did our sightseeing at Villa Romana del Casale and returned to load the car and settle our bill. We enjoyed some lovely wine tasting in Giovanni's shop and bought some supplies for our family. Nothing was too much trouble for Giovanni and his family. I would highly recommend staying here, for any length of time.

Room Tip: Not recommended if you can't climb stairs.

We stayed here for one night. Giovanni found us in the main square of town, looking lost (he owns the enoteca right on the square) and offered us a room in his nice little place. Great location, very nice room. Breakfast was delicious with all sorts of local pastries. Then we had a great wine tasting at his shop. Highly recommended!

We found this great little B&B in the lonely planet guide, as there were no reviews on this site, we were a bit wary, but it worked out great. The LP review was spot on. This is a small b&b just off the main square, a great location. Spotlessly clean and Giovanni and his family were super friendly and helpful. Breakfasts very good with extra special pastries on Sunday. We had some difficulty with public transport to the Roman mosaics, but Giovanni saved the day and gave us a lift. We stayed for two nights. Overall, very reasonable, great location and we were made feel like part of the family. We ate both nights in Amici Miei, very good food, great service, the pizzas are wonderful and the owner recommended excellent very reasonably priced wines. Piazza Armerina is a wonderful little town, well worth an overnight.

Room Tip: The central location means that it can be a bit noisy, make sure you close the double galzed sound p...

Very nice place, very clean, nice bathroom. Giovanni and his wife are extremely kind. The breakfast, prepared by Giovanni, is excellent. We stayed two days and he prepared completely different things. Nice city, go here, is very good. It is well located. All three rooms are nice, the best one is that with the balcony to the street.

Giovanni, his wife Lauradonna and daughter Gulia were such gracious hosts. They do not speak much English so brush up on your Italian so you can enjoy your conversations. Giovanni went out of his way to drive me to the Villa Romana after I arrived and to get my early morning buses to Agrigento and Palermo. He also proudly shared with me various typical wine and food from Piazza Armerina. Lauradonna keeps a quaint and spotless house. Sweet Gulia will happily show you her birds and dog if you happen to visit.

Their B&B is right in the heart of the old town so you can easily walk to all the restaurants, duomo and sights.

I left early before breakfast each morning so I can not comment on the quality of the breakfasts, but the kitchen area was lovely. They stocked the refridgerator with bottled water and a number of different jams, jellies and spreads.

The room was lovely with a good sized bathroom, tv and newer air conditioning unit. You do have to climb a few flight of stairs.

We arrived Piazza Armerina in the afternoon and passed several B&Bs on our way through town, but none of them opened the door. Finally we found the Umberto33 which turned out to be the nicest little place.

The B&B is situated in the busy main street, Via Umberto, with heavy traffic and difficult parking situation, but we finally found a place next to the church. The owners live on the first floor and there are two rooms at the second floor and one on the top floor, next too the breakfast room. There are steep stairs to climb.

The room was spacious with a double bed, a single bed, closet and TV/DVD. The aircondition was the new type that cools very well and makes very little noise. There was a little balcony overlooking the busy street. The bathroom was nice, with a good shower and hairdryer on loan. The only thing we missed here was Wifi.

The owners, Giovanni, his wife and daughter invited us in for a cold drink and a piece of homemade cactus cake upon arrival and although they didn't speak much English we managed to have a nice chat in Italian/Spanish/English.

At night we had trouble finding a restaurant (this turned out to be our major problem during our trip through the island). Luckily we found Giovannis little wine shop down at the piazza and after some wine tasting he showed us a restaurant just around the corner. They served excellent food, the best during the whole trip!

The breakfast was nice and plentiful, Giovanni served all kinds of Sicilian specialities and we were very happy to have fresh bread for breakfast too as we don't fancy eating sweets. He also sat down and joined us. When leaving we got a bottle of wine from his own production. We have stayed in so many B&Bs in Sicily and we must rate this one as one of the best when it comes to hospitality.
