Just finished a late lunch there, this afternoon, and had to write a review straight away!
First off, you would barely know the restaurant was there only for the outside tables and chairs. But it is just a minutes walk from the main town square and roadway. On the edge of the old town.

We passed the restaurant on the way to the Domo and on the way back we stopped in. As it was about 2pm, everywhere was closed! My wife and I didn't expect a lot from the look of the tiny (main) restaurant, but the fact we could see the kitchen/prep area meant we could leave if we saw something not to our liking.
After the glasses, cutlery and bread arrived we quickly read through the reasonably short menu and made our choices.

I ordered the pasta alle Limone and my wife had the pasta alle noma.

Both dishes were freshly made, from scratch, and were in front of us within 12-15mins. Impressive, as Gianna was also acting as the waiter for 3 other tables as well as chef for all 4! A feat a younger man would surely fail.

The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. No shock to see this place so deservedly high on the TripAdvisor recommendations list for Piazza Armerina.

Stumbled upon this restaurant by coincidence as we were walking around the old part of Piazza Armerina. The owner was busy preparing fresh dishes and we ended up eating earlier than planned. If you want the real thing and local charm this is the place to visit. The food was tasty, fresh and prepared as we watched. Not more than 16 people fit inside but there are places outside if the weather is ok.

The place is very small and because it had a large party, we set outside amidst rather cold night. Even more so, we hoped for a nice, tasty dinner. We were dissapointed. The waiter offered us antipasta and pasta de norma as second, this being the special menu for the night. The antipasta was a mix of frittatas which were cold, undercooked (hard and uneatable) artichoke, dried tomatoes (good, but we saw the waiter bringing them into a restaurant in a plastic container, obviously purchased outside). Pasta de norma was fine but tiny in portion, size of an appetizer. Consequently, we left hungary and went to a nearby pizzeria for a seconds.

We came here for lunch after our morning visit to Villa Romana del Casale. I agree with the reviewer who said that Da Gianna is one of the reasons why you love Italy. Our driver couldn't find the restaurant, so Salvatore (who runs the restaurant with his wife Gianna) got in his car and met us to guide us the rest of the way.

We sat outside under a canopy in a charming but not busy square. Throughout the meal we were made to feel like family. The antipasti. the pasta and the wine were excellent and the complimentary limoncello was so good we got some to take with us. The limoncello, as well as the food, were obviously homemade and authentic, just like being at their house for lunch. Except for the bill, of course, but that was very reasonable.

If you are looking for a place to eat in connection with a visit to the Villa Romana (which is amazing), this is the place to go.
