“Family hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2011

We booked a Lake View Room, which was ok. The catch is the location: The hotel is on the street that connects Lugano (on lake Lugano) with Menaggio (on lake Como), which can be noisy at times (especially the bikers). In fact the street cuts through the property between beach and buildings. The hotel has a nice garden/park (behind the hotel, up the hill). Breakfast was good and plentiful. The hotel tries to cater to couples and families at the same time, provides some facilities for families and some are children free (pool, restaurant), yet in the end the property may be too small to achieve that successfully - in the end this is a family place

Room Tip: Make sure you are not in a building/ room close to the street

Dear IntlTramp,
thank you very much for taking your time in describing Parco San Marco. As you said there is a road that cuts through the hotel property, but only the rooms belonging to a specific category might at times be affected by the noise of the road. In fact most categories are situated in very quiet areas of our 30.000 m² resort, and our hotel is particularly appreciated for its quietness. Our ambition is to be the perfect hotel that meets everyone´s needs: families, singles, couples, sportsmen, wellness and gourmet lovers. For this reason we have created areas that can be accessed only by adults, as the Gourmet Restaurant “La Terrazza”, the Lounge San Marco and the Relax Pool. Besides we also have “Wellness and family times” for the SPA area (indoor swimming pool and saunas), so that during certain hours guests who want to relax can enjoy the SPA and its quiet atmosphere. The fact that our guests belong to many different market segments proofs that we have managed to divide the two areas (quiet/no kids and fun/families) pretty well.
Dear IntlTramp, at any time our staff and I will be glad to answer to any queries you might have about all our facilities.
Hoping to welcome you again at Parco San Marco, we remain

Our stay was so relaxing, the setting of the hotel up on the hill overlooking the lake is breathtaking. they have waterfalls throughout the gardens adding to the tranquility. The kids club was great and they had children's entertainment each night as well as craft activities during the day. The restaurants are all very good, the breakfast fantastic, the outside pizza restaurant by the lake side is casual and delicious. Its great to go with kids as they can run around at the park. The rooms were well appointed and for those living in Switzerland it was great as they had dual power plugs for both Italy and Switzerland. the veiw from the room was great complete lake front. Its close to Lugano for shopping and close to other Italian towns to enjoy the markets and other cultural activities. We all had a great stay.

We have been to Parco San Marco three times and I am sure that we will be back. The price quality ratio is perfect and we loved the location. The staff is really friendly and the food and service is perfect for the money that you pay. The family suites are really clean and have big balcony.
It is a family resort with some areas only for adults. After putting the kids to bed we enjoyed time with the two of us in one of the two (Gourmet en Grotto) restaurants. The Gourmet Restaurant could change their menu more often, to offer a bit more variety. Grotto serves authentic italian food with a nice lake view. The buffet Restaurant is perfect for families with kids, they have everything that you need for a good family breakfast and you feel totally welcome with (small) children. The spa is nice and the treatments are worth it. If you go with a family I recommend the Lake View Family Suite, which has two bathrooms and a very small kitchenette, to prepare smaller meals for the kids.
The Environment, of course, is wonderful with Lugano and Lago die Como around the corner. We did 1/2 dat trips and loved the area.
Parco San Marco, we will be back!

We spent a night here whilst travelling to Lake Como, we were shown 4 rooms ranging from 360Euros to 200Euros and to be honest they were all over priced. The hotel was split into lots of separate buildings and a complete maze trying to find your way around.

It's also a very dog friendly hotel so if you're happy to listen to the Jack Russell next door barking all night then go for it!

We had dinner in their traditional Italian restaurant, the food was good but the service wasn't great, we waited 15 minutes for a drink, and then when asking about the italian foods we got the impression from the waiter that we'd asked if he minded if we spat on his shoes, working in a tourist hotspot you'd expect the staff to get these sorts of questions. Hmmm!

To summarise I think this is one of those hotels where you might get value for money if you use all the Spa treatments all day, but when travelling to the Italian lakes why spend your evening in the spa.

Dear Bbstore

I am very sorry our Resort wasn’t of your taste. You checked in as walk in at 08:32pm without any reservation and left the next morning at 09:00am. Before checking you in, we showed you a couple of different rooms and suites, but none seemed to meet your expectations. We even offered to assist you in finding an appropriate hotel for you. But at the end, you where too tired and decided to stay at Parco San Marco.
Although we would love to be the perfect hotel for everyone, we are aware of the fact that no hotel can satisfy all kind of guests. Different travelers value things differently. We absolutely understand you prefer classical contemporary hotels built like skyscrapers. We are different and we are proud of it. Most of our guests choose us because they are the type of travelers who prefer to be in an cozy ambience away from home where they can find almost everything body and soul need, with an eager to please staff like at Parco San Marco. Since our first TripAdvisor review 5 years ago (five star) we have received over 150 reviews on TripAdvisor and less than 1% has ranked us as you did, which speaks for itself as it regards our reputation for service and value. For the benefit of the TripAdvisor members who are reading this, we have other partner hotels in Lugano and on Lake Como and we just want you to pick the right one. We recommend travelers not only to read our reviews, but to take a few minutes to visit the Parco San Marco Beach Resort Golf & SPA’s own website before booking. Complete 3D plan of the Resort with all amenities and room descriptions, including images and room sizes can be found there, so that nobody ever needs to wonder about the size of our Subtropical Park (30´000m2), Private Beach (3000m2), or style of the room he is booking.
If you ever have any question about whether Parco San Marco is the right hotel for you, please email your questions to me at raimondosartorio@san-marco-hotels.com. We promise to be transparent and authentic in our answers to help you make the right choice.
Regarding your dinner at our traditional north Italian restaurant, it is very surprising to learn about your bad experience with our staff that apparently did not make you feel to your ease, cuddled an cared for. It is our deepest commitment to ensure that every guest feels cared for, appreciated and respected. We don’t know exactly what happened, but we cannot help but wonder if there may have been a language barrier issue that made you feel our waiter was not polite. Therefore, because of your comments, we have now had the F&B Staff download an app called Google Translate with voice input which we hope will be a great support for the staff to understand questions and requests from our international guests, and help them to reply in a proper way.
With regards to us being very dog friendly, we can definitively confirm this. However, we have specially selected suites and apartments in which dogs are allowed and this does not happen by chance. We have been hosting dogs for over a decade without ever having a complaint. We wish we had a chance to talk about this during your stay so we could have had a chance to correct any shortcoming you felt we had.
If there is anything you would like to discuss further on this issue, we would welcome your call.
Respectfully
Raimondo Sartorio

First off, I'm always somewhat sceptical of any hotel with so many overtly positive reviews, knowing that in the past some dubious practices existed whereby agencies could manipulate them and hotel staff posed as bona fide guests etc.
This is obviously not the case here: the hotel is one of the best European hotels I've stayed in. Firstly, the place is spotlessly clean throughout. Staff are friendly and offer to help carry bags and direct you any time you look lost. The General Manager (GM) - Raimundo runs a tight ship here. What I admire about him is he's a "hands-on" GM who doesn't sit in an ivory tower doing administration in an office. I saw him personally seat diners, carry bags and greet guests/escort them to their rooms. I agree with the reviewer that said there are lots of steps. In fairness, this is perfectly manageable for anyone fit and healthy. The bedrooms are bright and airy with marble floors and balconies. I'd say they are tastefully furnished and again, spotless. The big draw for my wife & I was the kids club - Bim Bam Bini. This club is well staffed with myriad activities to keep little minds occupied! My Children got up each morning, shunning an excursion with Mum & Dad and begging to go back to the Kids Club! My wife and I were delighted with this as it freed us up to go exploring. The hotel is a 20 minute walk from Porlezza. Porlezza was described to me by a local as where "local people live" - in other words not a tourist trap with inflated prices and heaving with tourists. If you want that, go to Como or Bellagio. Many Italians live in Porlezza and commute daily to Lugano. Best times to go - according to locals- are May, June and September. The day we left the hotel emailed us asking for our feedback. The staff here take a real pride in their hotel and it shows. Please keep up the good work, we are already planning our next visit. Thank you for a great stay!

One of those wonderful hotels that "get" families. Not just kids, not just adults, but families.

Layout is really nice, not a huge hotel and plenty of space between hotel "apartments", rooms are very comfortable and a nice size, of course with amazing views. Kids club was pretty good, kids were well catered for (not as good as Austrian kinderhotel, but still very good) and well entertained. We wanted to do things as a family most days however, but in the evening: kids went for early dinner, then kids club disco or movie allowing us to have a very nice dinner together. Food was excellent, especially in the "grotto" alternative restaurant (part of all hlaf-board price), waaaaaaaaay better than any other family hotel we have been to (reference Austrian "leading family hotel's of the world" again!).

Staff also universally excellent.

Not cheap, but very very good value.

Dear big-scot-nanny,
Thanks for your words “Parco San Marco – A very enjoyable family hotel”.
Our Club Bim Bam Bino is for kids from the age of 2. There are a plenty of activities the kids can do while they are in the club, so that they also enjoy their holiday. Every week we have a new program for example with archery or climbing.
We are glad you and your family had a great time at Parco San Marco.
