“Great spot to explore the Cinque Terre”
Reviewed July 28, 2010

We stayed at Hotel Garden (Rooftop) on our Honeymoon. The rooms were comfortable, the staff were always lovely and helpful in giving you directions and information about the area.

It was a great place to have based ourselves for exploring the Cinque Terre. The Cinque Terre pass included train travel from Levanto (but it did not appear to be included from Sestri Levanti or other towns further out) so it was perfect. The Hotel was reasonably priced and always put on a great spread for breakfast, so we could fill up early before heading out exploring and hiking the trails.

Unfortunately a lot of trails were not open when we visited so we spent most of the time exploring the Cinque Terre towns themselves and just using the train to get around. We had a great time and it was fascination to see the terraces being worked on the hillsides around the towns, walk along the romantic "Lover's Lane" with all the padlocks all along the way, and in general relaxing and enjoying great food and wine from the region.

The Hotel Garden was a fun place to stay. Our biggest complaint was the steps up to the second floor (1st floor as it's called in Europe). But the gentleman behind the dest carried my suitcase up for me. Our room faced the ocean but it was a little difficult to see on laundry days which turned out to be most every day (see http://karenrobbins.blogspot.com/2010/05/ah-italia-ocean-view.html). Still, the hotel was located in a convenient spot about 10 minutes walk from the train station.

Our stay happened to be during some sort of festival so our first night was a bit noisy with a band on the corner by the park and then again on the night of celebrating a political holiday. We were close enough to the central park of Levanto to get a really good feeling of being a part of the local atmosphere which seemed to be very family oriented.

Our room was sufficient and comfortable and clean. The bathroom was a nice size and included a bidet. Breakfast was lovely each morning with a good variety including cereal, cheese, meats, fresh croissants. All in all, it was a good place to stay for a good price.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Garden in Levanto. The staff couldn't have been more helpful when I left my jacket behind. They went out of their way to ship the item to my next destination. The rooms were quite clean and the location was great. I would highly recommend this hotel to others. Oh...and the breakfast was terrific as well.

Like all the places we stayed in Italy, the beds are hard and the shower tiny- just expect it unless you're spending the big dollars! However, this was an excellent location, the breakfasts were good, and the room was decently sized and very clean. We actually liked Levanto and its lovely beach boardwalk as much as the Cinque Terre itself. Noisy at night but we also experienced that in almost all the places we stayed in Italy. Bring earplugs for insurance and you'll be fine. Overall a fine place, especially for the price!

Great price for a room with breakfast. Parking is free but a 10 minute walk away, make sure you get a parking location for GPS before you arrive. Close enough to walk to catch a train or the boat. Also, the hotel doesn't have any pics of the front so it is kind of tricky to find. Helpful staff, clean rooms. Cinque Terre tip: when buying your "park pass" ask about closed trails, a couple of trails were closed and the park personell are useless in offering alternative routes.

We loved our room on the 5th floor with a balcony, lovely heated towel rack with linen towels. David was on the desk when we arrived and could not have been more helpful. He met us at the entry to help us with our considerable luggage, helped us put together a quick trip to Vernazza by train and gave us a tip for a nice restaurant. Free Internet was a bonus and we were able to print out our boarding passes for our flight home the next day. There was a lovely breakfast included in our 90 Eur rate. Our only regret was that we didn't spend more time in Levanto. It would make a great base for touring the Chinque Terre and is a reasonable drive or train trip from Pisa or Genova. We will be back!
