“One short stop from Monterosso”

We were fortunate to select Levanto over the Cinque Terre villages. It is easy to get to by train and more open and easy to get around than some of the crowded villages. There are plenty of good places to enjoy a meal and there is a beach as well. This hotel is modern, the staff very helpful and obliging and the breakfast more than adequate. Our large room had 3 single beds and a very large bathroom, on the same level as the reception/breakfast room. It could be a little noisy in the evening due to the games room and cafe downstairs, but I thought it just added atmosphere. Being on a corner, it was interesting to watch the locals meeting for a chat on the bicycles daily. A lovely place to stay, and I'd recommend it over the tired villages of the Cinque Terre.

This hotel is in a great location, 1-block from the beach (although you cannot see the beach due to the elevated roadway). The room (#30) was decent sized with a small balcony with 2 plastic chairs, however, the bathroom was a bit small, even by European standards.

I had confirmed with the hotel more than once prior to our arrival that they provided wireless Internet access, a necessity for us. Upon arrival we discovered that their wireless did not work in our area of the hotel. Luckily, I was able to use the unsecured wireless from the travel agency across the street. The hotel did have their tech guy try and troubleshoot the problem but without success.

Will we return to Levanto? Yes. Will we stay at the Hotel Garden? Yes, but we will not stay in room 30 or 31 due to the wireless problem.

  • Liked — Location, quiet (if you close the shutters at night), decent breakfast.
  • Disliked — No Internet connection in room.
  • Tips/Secrets — The restaurant adjacent to the hotel, the one with one 3 outside tables, was our best find in Italy.

We stayed for three nights at the Garden Hotel, with Italian friends. Its very conveniently located opposite the beach, and they have parking away from the hotel. The Reception staff were all very friendly. Our room was at the back, overlooking the childrens playground and allotments and was very quiet. We had a balcony with washing line, which was very useful. Our room and bathroom looked newly refurbished, on the 5th floor. Breakfast was an excellent buffet. There are plenty of good restaurants within a few minutes walk of the hotel. Internet access is freely available to guests. We would go back again, but possibly for longer.

  • Liked — Friendliness and location
  • Disliked — No bathtub
  • Tips/Secrets — Ask for 5th floor room for quiet location

What an excellent little hotel !! We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay here and thought that Levanto was a delightful small town ideally situated for touring the Cinque Terre.

The hotel itself is situated on a minor road. Our room had a view over the narrow road. There is very little car noise as traffic is severely restricted within this area of the town; there is some noise from the cafe beneath the hotel which has a table football machine and an ice-cream bar where a few youngsters hand out; however, this did not prove a problem to us.

The entrance is accessed to one side of the street and is a bit difficult to find at first as it's just a doorway. There's a buzzer by the door. If you have heavy suitcases, leave them in the hallway, walk up the stairs, enter the lobby (which is on the first floor) and ask the guy at the desk to bring them up for you. The staff are all very obliging, friendly and helpful.

The room allocated to us was on the same floor as reception and breakfast space. We'd asked for a big room(no extra charge) and this one had an extra bed which we used to lay out our bits and pieces. There was a good sized double bed, balcony, decent bathroom with loo, bidet, sink and shower. The towels were rather strange affairs being akin to a rather absorbent white sheet. Adequate but I'd advise you to ask for an extra one.

The breakfast was of a decent quality with the usual assortment of cereals, cheeses, rolls or croissants, fruit etc. The drinks (coffee or chocolate) were provided by a machine and the tea was an assortment of tea bags to suit most tastes.

If you're not sure what to do or where to go, the front desk staff are very helpful and informative. I'd certainly suggest a day trip by boat to the Cinque Terre.

Levanto itself is a pretty little seaside town with a good variety of cafes, shops and restaurants. The fish is of excellent quality and the ice cream in the shop beneath the hotel is excellent.

We stayed in this hotel in May 2006. Nice rooms, very good order, very clean, pleasant helpful staff, good breakfast, convenient location. Levanto a delightful little town in a wonderful setting which is not over commercialised and has a good choice of restaurants. Access to the cinq terre villages is by train, ferry or foot. You won't be disappointed
