“Exceptional little hotel that bats above its grade”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

We stayed at the Hotel Carla in mid June whilst exploring the Cinque Terre. The property has been recently updated, with a very modern lobby / bar area and new bathrooms and fittings.

Despite being the most affordable hotel we stayed in, the service we received from the front of house team was better than in some five star properties. Apart from friendly chat, we received great advice on walking routes around the Cinque terre and places to eat in Levanto. The breakfast was very good (and the equal of some five star properties) and best of all, the Wifi coverage and speed was exceptional. Many travellers will know the frustrations of slow and buggy wifi and we were certainly not disappointed here.

Understandably given the price point, space is the biggest issue in the rooms - it can be a challenge to fit in all your bags. The room itself was quiet and comfortable with an efficient reverse cycle system.

Best of all, the hotel is no more than 5-10m walk away from the train station, therefore ideally positioned for the trip down to Monterosso al Mare and the Cinque Terre. Levanto itself is a great little town - far less touristy and more "real" than the cinque terre towns.

Close to the center of town, to the supermarket, some excellent restaurants and close to the trains that will take you to Cinque Terre. Free parking. The hotel itself was easy to access, which we appreciated after walking the Cinque Terre, where there are many hills to climb. The quality of bedding, furnishings, other ammenities, soaps, toiletries was very good. Our room was spacious, with a very comfortable bed = a great night sleep. The room had spacious tolet/shower facilities, and also a great buffet breakfast which was included in the price. Breakfast included fresh fruit, eggs, bacon as well as baked goods, yoghurt and cereal, beverages, including a wonderful juice, cappuccino to start the day. The additonal sitting room adjacent the bedroom with flat screen tv was a nice surprise. - That gave us two TV's - and space to read, watch tv. Great location and point to explore Cinque Terre. Helpful staff. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Wifi didn't work in room on the 2nd floor. May have been a problem with reception that evening. It did however work on the main floor. Small inconvenience.

The staff was most helpful and easy to work with - Highly recommend. Rooms are small, but quite comfortable. Breakfast was very good - the young lady working the breakfast shift found time to keep everything stocked and come and ask if we wanted a cappucino. Excellent location, and Levanto is a perfect place to explore Cinque Terra. It seemed less touristy than the Cinque Terra towns. Can't say enough good things about the staff!

We chose to stay at Hotel Carla in Levanto due to its location and lack of steps and steep hills! It's in a superb location foor exploring Cinque Terre. It was an easy 5 minute stroll down to the shops and centre of town (there's a supermarket about 1 min away!) and about 5 or 6 mins to the train via the shortcut. Levanto is more laid back than the CT towns and it was a pleasure to come "home" to Hotel Carla each efternoon affter a long hot day of exploring and walking. The hotel is beautifully appointed, and the welcome from Valentina was so very friendly and helpful... and the welcome coffee was so appreciated! Our room was a junior suite with a garden view. The "garden view" is very ordinary... a few scraggy trees and a patio next door being landscaped. Not a view, an outlook, however, I actually became quite fond of our little balcony as it was very private & I could sit outside in my hotel robe at the end of a long hot day and relax, listening to the birds, the church bells and the quiet sounds of village life...and no one could see me!!!! Our junior suite was spacious, beautifuly decorated and perfect for us as we could spread out and relax. We didn't notice any noise from adjoining rooms, however, I agree with a previous poster's comment that the pillows are disappointingly flat and hard. I had a very sore neck for 2 days. Great to have the wifi although it didn't work well from the bedroom or balcony though this didn't concern us at all. Breakfast was delicious with a great choice - lots of meats and cheese, croissants, cakes - we preferred the muesli & yoghurt, scrambled eggs and toast & the delcicious fresh fruit. I would love to have been able to make a cup of tea in our junior suite so perhaps a kettle could be made available for use. A special thanks to Valentina and her lovely colleagues who were so very friendly and helpful throughout our stay ... it's this sort of service that makes such a difference! Nothing was too much for them. Thanks for making our first visit to CT so memorable.

What a find! The staff were so helpful and friendly, rooms clean and modern, great shower (which is what you want after being out exploring all day). The hotel is easy walking distance to the rail station, town centre. Breakfast was also very good. Although we had cool weather during out visit, it was great to have the private balcony. Evening meals were also offered.

The only thing which I thought could improve is the pillows - but I guess I like a feather pillow and found the ones we had were very flat.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Carla and appreciated the friendly and helpful staff, especially the details of the shortcut to the station and tips about good restaurants. It is a modern, clean hotel and breakfast was very good, coping for various tastes. Just a short walk down the hill to the town centre and free wiifi was appreciated. The perfect launching pad for the Cinque Terre.
