Arrived at the end of a long day travelling. Ask your taxi to drop you off at the END of the causeway, they can do that. Once inside the walls of the old city take the elevator up, and you arrive à short but interesting walk from the entrance of the Albergo. A porter helps you all the way with your luggage. The view from the terrace is indeed unique. Rooms are a tad smallish but have the required comfort, including a/c much appreciated in the heat of summer. Dinner on the terrace was a unique experience. Quality of the food was delightful. Service though was pretty slow. You can easily walk down rather than take the elevator. You will discover new sights each time. An excellent for the views and the meals.

Came with husband for special trip. Staying at Monastero is unique experience - ancient Castello full of history, perched atop rock rising out of sea. You can see right across the Bay of Naples from your room, and from the romantic terrace where staff will bring you drinks as you watch sun set. Simple, aesthetically pleasing & spotlessly clean rooms with well fitted shower rooms. No annoying electronic gadgets, which aids tranquility, but there is WiFi. The Auberge is a quiet & beautiful building in the old Castello Aragonese, full of local art, and it has its own kitchen garden which is beautiful to walk around. The views and ambiance are magical, and the staff incredibly helpful - for instance organising transfer from Napoli airport on arrival, which made journey stress free. There is a lift up through the rock - just as well. Breakfast (included) was excellent and do have dinner in restaurant, the food is superb. Staying here was the experience of a lifetime.

Stayed in early May and had an unforgettable time. We were originally placed in room #8, which has the largest private balcony overlooking the island (really breathtaking views) but after a small mishap, which the hotel staff rectified instantly, we instead chose to stay in room #9, which I personally preferred. Rooms are minimalist but very neat and tidy with super comfortable beds. As others have mentioned there is no TV or mini-bar, which I personally liked, but could deter some. I did see that rooms on the second and third floors have more modern furnishings (particularly the bathrooms) but are much smaller in size.

The breakfast is great and includes a wide-variety of options from cereal, cold cuts, fruit, fresh juices, coffee etc and the dinner is also very nice, with an extensive wine list. We loved sitting out on the large public balcony (opposite reception) with a book and glass of prosecco, watching the sun set over Ischia each night. Truly magical!

The staff really made our stay; everyone was so accommodating and welcoming – we could not have asked for more. Upon securing my reservation, they provided a 30-page guide on all things Ischia which was super helpful, including directions, places to eat and visit etc.

I must also mention the wonderful café within the Monastero grounds (operated by the hotel) which serves fantastic food and drinks – we had lunch here on our first day and it spoiled us. Fresh salads, bruschetta and Aperol / Limonchello spritz for only €7! Try to get a table near the railings for wonderful views of the Monastero and Ischia below.

We’ll definitely be back!

Room tip: Room #8 and #9 have amazing views of the Island

To wake up in a Hogwarts like castle on a rock with sweeping views over the island is just indescribable and an experience in itself.
It is so nice to walk through the gardens and stare out over the ocean.

Rooms are simple and basic but stylish with a nice bathroom and a comfortable bed.

Staff is very service-minded but in a pleasant and friendly way. The atmosphere was really pleasant.

We had dinner in the restaurant which was lovely and delicious and can be highly recommended since in Ischia Porto and Ponte are not that much stylish restaurants to be found (although Ponte is better ...Porto was just tasteless tourist traps).
The food in Albergo Il Monastero was absolutely delicious.

One tiny point of approvement could maybe be to create a door between the reception and the hallway to the rooms. Due to the acoustics we could hear people talking in the reception area quite clearly while we were in our room.

If you come to Ischia consider at least staying one night here, you won't regret it.
