Had a great holiday here and met some very nice people. Stayed for a week in October, room 303 with a sea-view balcony on the top floor with spectacular views of the castle and the mainland. All staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel’s private beach was excellent, the thermal spa was a welcome treat, the roof terrace was also great but you could not buy a drink or a snack up there which was sad because the views were again superb.
The pool area was good with plenty of sunbeds and a snack bar but there were loads of flies and I must have donated a pint of blood to the local insect population! There’s a large garden next door which seems to be a cat haven and this may, or may not, cause the problem with insects. There were no flies inside the hotel.
Breakfast was good with fresh fruit, cereals, cold meats, cheese, streaky bacon, scrambled eggs and sausages etc. The quality of the evening meal was okay for the first couple of nights, it wobbled a bit in the middle and then fizzled out altogether! Never have I seen so many meals sent back to the kitchen for one reason or another.
The quantity of food was poor. It may be nouvelle cuisine but most of the guests we spoke to complained of fancy plates with very small portions of meat or fish and no hot vegetables whatsoever. There is a good salad buffet with cold vegetables but there was almost nothing left after twenty minutes and I never saw any dishes replenished. A lot of guests chose to swap the evening meal for lunch and go out for “proper food” as they called it. The wine was excellent with plenty of choice but the cheapest bottle was 22 Euros.
Taking everything into consideration, it’s a lovely little hotel with fabulous views, close to the castle, the port and the town centre, but let down only by the evening meal.
PS, the transfer to Ischia was a pleasure and the Thomson rep, Mina, met us at the airport and escorted us all the way. She was superb.
