This hotel surprised. It offer at good price a comfortable room, a nice swimming pool, in internal car parking and a lot of smiles from the staff. They give me advice where to go and it was a pleasure to talk with them. The view is very nice and the position, if you have a car (strongly advised in Ischia renting the car) is wonderful.
Try this hotel with your children and you will be satisfied,

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights and would highly recommend this hotel. We booked direct and got a great value deal on a double room with sea view. It was the least expensive place we stayed in throughout our trip down the coast/islands and one of the best. Hotel Gemma isn't particularly central to the nearby towns but that wasn't a concern to us - it's about a 15min hilly walk to Cassamicciola or a 15min bus ride to Ischia Porto which has better restaurants etc. This suited us well (even though the buses are soooo overcrowded!!).
The hotel does a decent breakfast, and has a great pool which we really enjoyed....very relaxing. The food at the hotel is also very good. The owners and staff made us feel very welcomed and are probably why this hotel has a nice chilled atmosphere. Our room was lovely; tiled floor, very light and airy, sea view as promised, nice bathroom, very clean indeed. I would recommend this hotel.

We (group of 6) arrived to Ischia after spending two hectic days in Naples. We'd chose Hotel Gemma to our place of stay in Ischia because of the good rewies and situated perfectly in between of Ischia Porto and Casamicciola Terme.

I certainly can agree with the good reviews of the hotel. Franco and his family welcomed us to immediatly and they offered even to carry our heavy bags to our room..which some of us also used. =) The rooms were big enough to fit all our carryings and some of us had balconies with seaview, without asking for it. Room's ac worked perfectly during the hot days and was well needed after spending our days either by the pool or exploring the beautiful island of Ischia. Before leaving to dinner either to Ischia Porto or Casamicciola (even Forio) we spent a little time with wine on the sun-terrace, from where the view was amazingly nice.

I cannot say that much of the restaurant, since we didn't eat there anything else but the breakfast..which was really good (omelettes, cheese, pascseraser and the buffet), even though the same every morning.

Hotel Gemma is a small, family run hotel on the island of Ischia. The hotel is perfect if you enjoy a quirky, traditional, family run hotel. All staff are very friendly and all seem happy to help. The hotel seemed to be mainly populated by Italians on there own holidays, and there weren't very many people who spoke English. On the island it is vital that you buy a bus pass in order to get around we got a pass for the week which meant we could visit different places, the buses are generally reliable, - similar the the bus system in Britain! - slightly erratic at times! Differently to the staff at the hotel, many of the people in Ischia seemed particularly un friendly, which surprised me as you would've thought that tourism was a main source of income for them. Ischia was a very different holiday for myself and my family, for we would normally choose a beach holiday or places such as Thailand and the Carribean. Do not go here if you enjoy this style of holidaying! there are practically no beaches, and the beaches there are you have to pay to get on, and even then are littered and dirty. However, if you enjoy a more city style break, with intentions to explore the town and the historical sights, then this is more for you. There are trips available, to the likes of Pompeii etc, yet you can only book these in the town itself, not through the hotel itself. Along the harbour of Ischia there are many nice restaurants and bars, as we went half board we went out for drinks in the evening, The bars were nice and as you can expect quite expensive, as with many other things in ischia, We once bought 4 cans of ice tea in the town, and it cost us 12 euros. However being in the euro, we did expect this. The food served in the hotel, was good, a traditional italian style of eating. We enjoyed the food, even though the choice was fairly limited. Overall we wouldn't go back to Ischia, not due to the hotel, but the island its self.
However, i would like to thank the staff at the hotel for doing there best to make us feel at home and welcome! THANK YOU!

Very cozy hotel with perfect staff. The owners of the hotel are very hospitality people who always ready to help. The rooms are clean. Can be just one problem if you don't speak italian. But it's problem exist in all Italy. I was with my friends who speak italian perfectly so we didn't have any problems.

First of all, let's say that Casamicciola Terme in not the best place to stay in Ischia if you are looking for a picturesque place and if you like to take many pictures; next time I'd choose to go to Forio d'Ischia or Sant'Angelo.
Hotel Gemma is a family run hotel, staff is very nice and kind, especially at the restaurant (everything you ask for, they give you without problem). If you have problems with stairs, maybe this is not the right place for you. The location is right if you don't mind to take a bus or a taxi to go everywhere; the walking distance to Casamicciola is about 1 km.
Our room was clean and peaceful, even if air conditioning was not so good, so temperature was freezing or hot, never the right one. The common terrace overlooking the sea is great to relax, especially at sunset time.
About the restaurant, my expectations about it have been disappointed: I'm italian and I can say that I've eaten better italian food in many other hotels. During one week, several times we had the same dish (this is boring if you are on holiday). The temperature in the dinner room was too hot, no air conditioning.
The swimming pool is not as big as it may seem in the pictures, the space around the pool is very narrow and place to sunbath and relax very poor.
If you pay a promotional rate (including daily entrance to the Parco Termale Castiglione, 10 minutes walking distance) it's ok, but the public rate is not adequate to the services offered by the hotel.

Had a fantastic holiday, Franco and Rita made us so welcome, we felt like family. Nothing was too much bother. The hotel has some spectacular views from its multi terraced roof and its restaurant terrace where we spent many hours using the free broadband connection showing our friends and family the views of the bay of Naples via web cam. This is only a 3* hotel but it feels far superior with its personal service. The room was pleasantly presented, clean with en suite bathroom and plenty of socket outlets. We were treated to an evening meal while we were there, at no extra cost. Central Casamicciola is a short walk away and the bus service to all parts of the island stops outside.
