“A NICE TRIP”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2012

I was here with my family in October 2011 and I stayed very well. The hotel is simple but nice and all the staff was nice. The rooms were fine compared to the price I paid and also the view from the terrace is unique. I would come back to the hotel and I recommend it.
The thermal centre is not so big but is well prepared. The most beautiful thing is the outdoor swimming pool which overlooks on the sea.

We had reserved a room and when it was time to pay they had changed our reservation to a bigger room with a balcony and "sea view". After a long debate at the receipton they asked us to the office where an extreme unpleasent woman would not give up but insisted even if we showed our resevation and the total cost! The atmosphere was incredibly tense and we felt extremely unsecure and outside any european laws and regulations considering customer protection and customers rights. They refused to speak in english and threatened us with the police. Our family was not allowed to leave the hotel area until they received thei payment!
Please, trust us and seek fo another hotel that has integrity and moral standards.
We felt robbed and harassed and they succeeded to ruin our vacation.
Ischia was a pretty island that we never wll visit again, thanks to this experience.

Sincerely yours

Having read previous reviews after booking we were a bit apprehensive about the holiday - but we needn't have worried.
We do agree about the room - it is on the small side but very clean and although we did not like our outlook from the balcony, the staff were very accommodating and moved us as soon as a room became available. The hotel is in an ideal situation to get around the island and has splendid elevated views of the coastline from the pool area, where you can enjoy breakfast of beautiful fresh croissants. The food in the restaurant does cater for the mainly italian clientele (but given that it's Italy that's perfectly understandable). We were prepared to eat out a few nights given previous reviews but did not eat out once. The food was varied and plentiful with a good selection of salads prior to your starter and usually a choice of cake or fresh fruit for dessert.

The staff are pleasant courteous and friendly. Don't look for any evening entertainment however there is none.

Top marks for the pool and pool area - lovely.

In summary - don't expect the Ritz but this hotel proves good value for money.

We arrived at the hotel around 11pm and were helped with our luggage up to our room where there was a tray of bread, cheese meat and water etc for us as it was late.

The rooms aren't massive and the beds not as comfy as your own but we didn't spend much time there anyway, When we were there it was perfectly adequate and the views were amazing, even though we didn't have a sea view room we could just manage to see the sea, to the left the view was rolling hills and in front of us were fruit trees, plants and flowers etc so not unattractive.

Communications with the manager were difficult (not that we had to talk to him frequently just pleasantries) as he didn't speak much English, but the other reception staff spoke good English which was a plesant suprise as we were prepared to have to try out our patchy italian as were were told English is not widely spoken on the island. The other female and male receptionists were extremely friendly and helpful, they constantly gave us suggestions for things to do, where to eat etc and also helped with the practicalities like how to get to places.

The breakfasts were no better or worse than we've had anywhere else in Europe, bread, cheese, meat, yoghurt, fruit, cereal etc. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant although we were were book HB. This was because when we booked we could only book HB and so no never intended to eat there. The menu did looke limited, but the restaurant was pretty much full every night so I assume it can't have been that bad.

The pool is lovely wih fab views and nice and relaxing. As for visiting places you can get to most of the island using pretty reliable bus service.

To get to Sant Angelo, Lacco Ameno (although this is about a 20 min walk from the hotel), Forio, The William Walton Gardens go down to the main road using the steps or lift cross the road (carefully!) and take the No 1 or 2 bus, to get to Ischia Porto take the 1 or 2 bus on the same side as the hotel. To get to Ischia Ponte and Castello Argonese take the No 7 from Ischia Porto.

You can also get the ferry to Capri, Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento from Cammisiciola.

The hotel recommended the following restaurants and all were gorgeous: Zelusso in Cammisiciola, Riva Destra in Ischia Porto, and Coco Gelo in Ischia Ponte. OUr favourite was Riva Destra as not only was the food delicious the service was great, they were friendly and knowledgeable about the food.

The hotel have us a brochure supplied by the IschiaOnline website but if you get the chance to actually look at the website before you go its well worth it, it has masses of information about what to see/do etc.

The only other things are - be extremely careful crossing the manic roads, and brush up on your italian. Being able to ask for a menu, the bill and what something is etc makes everyones lives a bit easier. The Tiscali website does an italian phrasefinder split up into categories like food, drink, hotels, money etc which we found useful.

Anyway hope all this helps

Sept 2006

We arrived at the hotel at 10.00pm to find no atmosphere, everybody it appeared had gone to bed! Our room was extremely hot - no air conditioning, very basic, but none the less clean. Bed and pillows very hard!

Upon awakening the next morning we found we had wonderful views from the balcony. Food is poor in the hotel, no fresh fruit at breakfast , having to ask for trays to be refilled, only two choices of starter and main course with veal and fish being served 5days out of 7, consequently we ate out, but paid for this provision. Some staff were helpful, others were poor! Pleasant walk into market/shops area.

Will never return to hotel again - have memories for the wrong reason.

We had some problems trying to get a 4star hotel for a reasonable price in Ischia, so we were pleased when we found L'approdo hotel. We spoke to a very helpful receptionist called Branca who offered us a family room at a special rate of 150euros per night, including a continental breakfast. We had our two children under 6 with us, (it would have cost us 70 per person and 70 euros for the two children).
Unfortunately, we missed our flight on the first night, therefore missing our first night at the hotel. We were also joining some friends that were staying in a hotel about 10minutes away, unfortunately we couldn't get a room there. Lucky on our second day in Ischia, we found a hotel right next door to them and we were fortunate enough to be allowed to use thier hotels facilities. We quickly returned to our hotel about mid day and explained why we would like to move, Branca was very understanding but told us that we would have to pay for 4 nights(even though we had only slept there for one night) because thats what we had booked( we had explained when we booked that we might move),we were unhappy, as 600euros is a lot for one night. We asked to speak to the manager, who wouldn't come out of her office and said thats the price. After lots of heated debating and eventually being SUMMONED to the managers office, she agreed that we pay 300 euros. We felt totally RIPPED off. The hotel was only ok, the rooms were more 3star than 4, breakfast was a few stale rolls and biscuit toast, the pool was a good size but not very attractive, I would not advise that anyone should stay there particularly if you may end up having any issues, they really don't care.

  • Liked — location
  • Disliked — customer service
  • Tips/Secrets — Be aware that the rating of hotels in Ischia seems to be rated higher than the hotel.eg.a 4star is actually more like a 3star.

We stayed in hotel L'Approdo twice (2001&2002), consequently this report is not "fresh" enough...
By our opininon the price/service ratio was very reasonable for this facility. Rather small, family owned and homy touching. Nice terrace pool, beautiful view over the sea, standard to fine meals. Pleasant touch of oldfashioned gentility of staff.
Beaches are the major problem all over the Ischia island: all of them (even the most meagres) are tolled; the best places are hidden within several famous and expensive "thermal parks".
