“Discovery of a beautiful Island”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

My husband and I would like to recommend this hotel highly. We stayed on a half board basis for a week in July. The food was very good, the staff helpful and charming and the hotel very clean. There is a superb roof top terrace overlooking the bay and the stunning vista. There are two pools one outside on the terrace and another spa pool with steam room within the hotel where you can also have various treatments. The Ferry from Naples arrives via Ischia port (don't get off at Ischia port) Villa Carolina is the next stop Forio. There are buses going all around the Island and boats to hire just across the road. A fabulous base to discover an enchanting island with lots to see and do.

The location was perfect as it overlooked the harbour where the naples direct ferry comes in saving taxi from port ischia. Forio is great base for exploring island by boat or scooter. Hotel also located close to main town for shopping. My wife and I enjoyed our stay and by crossing road in front of hotel you had perfect sandy beach and could swim in sea with no carrying lots of beach stuff. Also this is where you can hire boat and easily go round island in a day stopping at great harbours and inlets.

We attending breakfast once and decided to skip it for the remaining days. Canned fruit , no bread rolls, no eggs in any way and the breakfast wait staff not the friendliest one.
Rooms were clean however bed making staff needs to be retrained. Room was very simple. A/C is controlled by receptionist if you don't wanted ,other option was to open window.
Location was excellent to get on and off the ferry.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a bigger window and more light comes into the room.

On our third return to this hotel, we expected the welcome we had had the last time. Huge disappointment. We had booked a Sea View room in November for our stay in June. We arrived a day late (nightmare AlItalia journey) but had paid in advance so we knew that was a loss but despite having called to confirm the day before, they said they had a mix up and we would have to stay at another hotel. We refused. 30 mins later they said they did have a room but not with a sea view but we could move to a sea view in 2 days offering us a free spa treatment in compensation. They them took us to the 'Dungeon Room' as I call it as it does not have any natural light and a mini window which is to high to see through or open. My temper frayed and I demanded a room with a window which miraculously they found immediately! This room was pleasant. If you like hot eggs and meat for breakfast, arrive early as they did not switch on the ovens to keep the food warm once it was put out. The beds were very hard this time. On the day we were moving to our sea view room we had to remind them to move us and even then, they tried to get us to move our own bags. The waiters and cleaners were all lovely. Omar is fabulous, two of the reception staff blew hot and cold and you really had to badger them to help and remind them of requests. It was unusual as they have always been lovely before. We did not use the spa, it was too hot. The location of this hotel is second to none in Forio with a lovely terrace but please call and ask them to confirm your booking via email, even if you have not booked directly with them so you have proof. Sea View rooms really are worth it.

Room Tip: Sea View Rooms worth the extra, be careful of the 'Dungeon Room', it is bigger a double and...

We decided to return to this hotel and the room we got second time was fabulous. Lovely view of the sea, not very private as it also looked out onto the sun beds on the terrace, and people could see right into the room as they strolled past but we got used to it. Breakfast was lovely and the service great. Room was clean and comfy, not gigantic but good. Lovely shower. A free bus to Poseidon thermal pools at citara and a € or 2 off the price if you book your ticket at the hotel. Ischia is wonderful and this hotel is fab. Have booked again for 2013 :)

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the sea if possible, may cost a little extra but worth it.

On arrival we were quite disappointed with the room, it was very small and next to the spa so very noisy. We moved to another room which was much more spacious. The rooms were cleaned every day, air conditioning was nice and cool, breakfast was good, small selection of salami, cheese and breads as well as pastries, fruits and cereals, I especially liked the cake! Also had a cooked selection which didn't look very inviting but actually tasted ok! Didn't have evening meals there, but had a few drinks at the bar which were really cheap. Mini-bar was expensive though, go to the supermarket for water!! Bar could be advertised a bit better, menus for food and drinks, etc. Pool on the roof top was very relaxing, and quiet most of the time. Staff were helpful and friendly. Did not use the spa. There is a door out from the roof top which leads straight into the town, and our favourite restaurant Martinarosa was a couple of doors away from the front entrance. Brilliant location, right on the front by the beach, close to the restaurants and shops, the ferry port, and the bus stop which is the easiest and cheapest way to travel around the island. Places well worth a visit... Negombo Spa resort, S. Angello, and Giardini La Mortella. We would stay here again, by the end of the week we were very sad to leave!

We booked the Hotel Carolina via Last Minute . Com ,so got a good deal. For what we paid, the hotel was good, clean, modern, great location by the harbour and hydrofoil jetty. Breakfast was ok, but we were normally quite late in , half 9, plenty of cereals, fruit etc but the hot stuff, bacon, scrambled eggs etc, had by then been sitting since 8,so were either empty of well stewed .
As mentioned by others, the room aircon is controlled by reception. They did seem to turn it off or sometimes turn it up but a quick call to reception soon resolved this small irritation. Maybe they thought it was cold and we'd be too cold ! ( it was only mid 20's and the locals all had big coats on )
Overall though, a nice hotel to stay at providing the price is right. For transport around the island, we hired a scooter locally and really enjoyed the freedom to roam at will. I would say though that previous riding experience is essential, the southern roads are tricky and the locals ignore most traffic rules ! Fun though !

Room Tip: We went with last minuet . Com and they only have standard rooms .The room itself was fine but it on...
