The running of this hotel is slap-dash and unorganised, but it does have its charms. Our room was clean, although the cupboard and shower door were broken, and we had a very large terrace area with great views. The hotel is a 10 - 15 minute walk into Forio (at least) but there seems to be a regular bus service. The manager gave us a free lift and discount tickets to the Negombo spa in Lacco Ameno which is well worth a day out. The free lift, however, consisted of squeezing four adults and three children into a 1990's style Fiat Punto. We appreciated the gesture all the same. Despite positive reviews we found the restaurant mediocre.

Unfortunately, I cannot attest to the quality of the hotel rooms themselves...we never even saw the inside of one! I did book the trip at the last minute (2 days beforehand), however I booked the rooms through a reputable website. What is more, I called the hotel no less than 3 times prior to our arrival on the island to confirm our travel plans.

Yet, only once we arrived did they inform us that our room was double booked and they had no place for us in the hotel! They offered to take us to their hostel and provide us with a room there. It was kind of them to scrape together something at the last minute, but this room had a shared bathroom and was fairly dirty and had cigarette smoke. So, needless to say, we were not interested since we thought we had booked a reputable 3-star room.

The only other concession they offered was driving us to hotels around the island to find another room for ourselves. So, I spent most of my first day on Ischia driving to hotels in Forio trying to find a place to stay. We eventually found a hotel, but it was more expensive and a lower star-rating. But what else were we to do? We booked a more expensive room for two nights on our own and received nothing further from our original hotel. (Except, of course, for the unwelcome advances from one of their staff. Offering a private massage to two women traveling is most emphatically *not* my idea of professional customer service!)

In short was disappointed that we lost time on Ischia, that we were subjected to such poor customer service, and that no other compensation was offered by the hotel. I will never attempt to stay here again, and as I am a tour guide in Italy, I will also recommend that other visitors to this island stay away from the Poggio del Sole. It is not worth the risk of the double booking nightmare.

We spent 3 nights at Poggio Del Sole in July. It had a good pool area, great views and VERY good food at the restaurant. Our air conditioner did a poor job cooling the room, although other guests told us that theirs worked too well. The owners also operate a hostel and it often seemed as though they treated Poggio as another hostel rather than a more upscale hotel. There are free rides offered to some places, but you will be made to feel as though driving you is an inconvenience to them. They also push one of the thermal pools over another and it is very obvious that they get a kickback. We went to Poseidon and had a great time.

Breakfast was good, especially the warm croissants.

There was a great deal more noise from the road than expected.

Try the Bruschetta!

A family run hotel with a spectacular family restaurant on the property and the cooking by
Tina Collela, the mother. Every meal is the best in Ischian cooking available on the Island of Ischia. You can eat in the restaurant every night and never regret any meal you
have. The view from the hotel of the bay of Naples and the daily sunsets are unbelieveable. Talk to Giuseppi and you can negotiate a package deal of a lifetime to include room and board that cant be beat. Tell him William Constantine recomended the hotel as one of the best on the island.

We have just returned from Hotel Poggio del Sole in Forio Ischia. It is a beautiful Island with lots to do although when we were there it was too hot to do hardly anything.
The hotel is a 15 to 20 minute walk up hill from Forio but once there the views are well worth it. Virtually every room has a sea view and it became a ritual every night to sit and watch the sunset before going down for dinner. There are a few nice restaurants only a few minutes walk from the hotel but the best place to eat by far is the hotels family restaurant itself . Mama Tina picks vegtables and herbs in the early evening and transforms them into the most amazing food. My personal favourite was a starter of aubergines in a tomato sauce, I loved it and I don't even like aubergines. The three Colella brothers are so helpful and will arrange anything for you. They will transport you around in their family van whenever possible. Nothing is too much trouble for them. It may not be right in the centre of things but the views and food make up for that and we actually found the food in the towns, much more expensive and not as good.

My wife and I have stayed at Poggio Del Sole 5 years in a row and will continue to do so
as long as we can . We are already booked the first 10 days in July and can't wait till we get there and start to enjoy Mama Tina's cooking and the family's hospitality. They are a family who looks to please every guest wishes and dreams for a great vacation and you will enjoy every moment spent with the Collela's and there staff of friendy and acomodating help. I have personnaly recomended this hotel to Family and friends alike.
In fact my cousin Joanne and her 8 friends are taking over the hotel in May of this year for a week and cant wait to hear how much they loved it.
The acomodations are clean and simple with a/c and great views of the Sea, you will not be disapointed. It is the simple life with great food and a family that cares!!!!!!!
