I spent a really enjoyable few hours wandering through Giardini La Mortella. Beautiful location, great views and stunning plants. I think it would have been even better in late Spring.

This is an excellent garden inspired by William Walton & his wife.
Lots of interest in this garden & lots of info about their work & how they developed it & how it inspired him to write his classical works.
This is a must see in Ischia

It was worth the hot and sweaty bus ride and the steep climb up a path near the bus stop to reach this Ischian treasure arriving at the lower entrance. The garden was created in a barren quarry between Forio and Lacco Ameno, at the time when water had to be shipped in from Naples. A joy to walk for 1 1/2 hours up and down the garden, cost 12 euros, worth every euro with all sorts of interesting plants from different parts of the world including South America and Thailand and also several hot houses to visit. Interesting for all age groups. There were plenty of lavatories and drinking-water taps and the cafes were very pleasant and offered a welcome break from the midday sun. Shop and museum. Views were stunning from the top. The garden is a credit to composer Sir William and Lady Walton. The only downside is there are no pavements on the nearby main road and it was hair-raising walking back towards Lacco Ameno. Next time we would take the same path we came up on back to the bus stop, about the 3rd stop going towards Forio after Lacco Ameni just short of a salumeria on the right (east side). The path is on the east side about 70m south of the bus stop. Otherwise drive there and park at the garden's car park right at the top. You'll be amazed at the place and the size of some of the trees! A wonder to behold!

This small, privately-owned garden is open to the public and holds concerts during the summer months that feature student musicians from the Naples area. The flora are clearly marked and set among the hillsides with walking paths and a tea room.
