Owned and run by the wonderfully charming George Despotopoulos and accompanied by his lovely wife Gella at weekends, you are made very welcome indeed. Booking the accommodation via the e-mail address on the Galazio website is very easy, as George is great at replying quickly to e-mails. (George also arranged car hire for us at a very good price from Tasos in Gavrio.) The rooms are a good size, nearly all with a magnificent sea view, which you can request when booking. In September there was the delightful smell of jasmine from the Villa's garden, which you can sit in. The bathroom was good, with a nice shower.
Amenities include: an electronic safe, fridge, tv, wi-fi, A/C, road-side parking space outside, a small hotplate and briki, coffee cups and mugs, wine glasses, a few plates and cutlery; you wouldn't be able to cook a meal in the studio and the only sink is in the bathroom, but, hey, with a magnificent range of fabulous tavernas on your doorstep that's not a problem. The room was cleaned daily and fresh sheets/towels provided regularly. There are some lovely paintings in the rooms and hallways. You have a great view of Batsi (one of the most picturesque Greek villages I've seen on my travels) across the bay on the hillside, the comings and goings of fishing boats and yachts at the harbour, and nice beaches only a stone's throw away.
All the shops, bars and tavernas are either a couple of minutes down the road - or a maximum of 10 minutes along the seafront and Villa Galazio is located up a slight incline on the seafront road, which can occasionally be a little noisy but while we were there in September it was pretty quiet. There are no steep hills to climb to reach the accommodation but there are a few steps to climb in the building itself, leading up to reach the rooms. There is a bigger supermarket "AB" on the top road which can be reached by walking up the little road by the bridge from the sea front. At night you also have the benefit of a fabulous view of the array of colourful lights reflecting off the water and the twinkly lights of the village above, but none of the noise associated with being right in the middle of the bars and club area.
Villa Galazio represents good value for money; George goes out of his way to help you and we hope to return before too long.
