WE enjoyed this small museum. They have concerts there in the evening and we totally enjoyed that. The concert was folk music but seemed authentic and charming.

Go for the concerts, they are held in the cellar which has a great atmosphere. During interval there are free drinks either in the cellar or out in the terrace. Very nice atmosphere.

We had an excellent guide who showed us around and filled us in on Naxos' venetian history. Spectacular views from the balcony out over Chora and the sea,

Sunset outside the Museum, overlooking the port.€23 for a front row seat in a small audience. Local Greek dancers, musicians with violin, lute, and greek bagpipes...and a very entertaining Compere who gave us a short history of the area, of music on Naxos, the Venetians, and some easy Greek phrases. And in between the musical items, unlimited drinks, all local and laid out for us with explanations of each one. I loved the ambience, the hospitality, and we all had to get up and learn some dancing at the end, so great fun. Many different types of concerts in the Festival i believe. well worth it!

This museum was open on Easter Monday, a public holiday in Greece. That alone shows dedication on behalf of the people who work here. For 5 euros -3 if you're entitled to a discount (student, etc)- you get a very informative tour by one of the 3 ladies who work at the museum. The museum is bigger than it seems from the outside, and there's quite a few objects of interest inside (I was surprised to see one of Victor Hugos's works signed by himself, as well as official papers signed by the kings of Greece as well as the Pope, honoring the family that lived in the venetian house). In some of the rooms there is works of art by artists -mostly from Naxos- on sale, as well as a small shop with local produce (we were given a shot of the citrus liquor -buy the 40% white one to take home with you, it's beautiful). I was both surprised and disappointed to hear that this museum hasn't had any state funding, so we bought some stuff from their shop to support them. For people with no state funding, they're doing a great, great job.
