“A disappointment”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

Apart from the building itself, there really isn't a great deal of interest here. The view from the top is great though.

“Home from Afar”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

This amazing museum really takes you into the old house, all laid out as if you were calling in for tea. Fantastic display and collection and beyond the wonderful settings for the Dormus Festival held this year all summer and now ending with Jazz. Last time we visited we sat entranced by Greek classical guitarists, incredible experience as night fell and the distant ferries wailed and the scent of fresh coffee filled the warm air.

“Laughably awful collection!”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

Entered museum in hushed tones, having parted with 10 Euros for me and my husband. Looked around. No explanatory material. We see:
Nice original Venetian bedstead with bedclothes lade across it, and amazing view across the harbour from the windows.
Random cello bow hung up on wall next to fairly average 20th century piano that's seen better days.
Clutter of books, some admittedly dating back a few centuries but also mingled with magazines from 2009.
Really bad art (like, bad GCSE still life stuff) hung in pride of place.

My husband turns to me. "Is it just me, or is this place stuffed full of car boot sale crap?"
I laugh uncontrollably. We have to leave.

All in all, a few nice items, and lovely architecture, but the curator needs shooting!

“not so much of a museum”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

I would not call this a museum, maybe an old house with lots of clutter. These are no museum quality artifacts, most of the items can still be found in many grandparents attics or houses.
However, this place shines in the envening, as it hosts amazing artists from various genres in a very intimate setting. We attended traditional Greek evening and Guitar recital. Also, it is not easy to find this place, there are many steps to climb and many turns to make.

“Museum, concerts, alcohol samples! :)”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

The museum is an old venetian house with a few rooms filled with old stuff. I'm not much of a fan of museums in general (as you may see from the beginning) but it was nice and worth the price. They had information about the place in many, many languages and it was actually pretty nicely translated even to Finnish (there aren't all that many Finnish tourists on Naxos, ever, compared to many other Greek islands).

Downstairs they had alcohol samples from one of the kitron distilleries on the island. They had at least two flavors, the local cinnamon-honey raki, normal raki, ouzo and so on. Feel free to check them out, kitron's after all one of the things you want to experience while on Naxos, it's their specialty.

The people at the museum also organize concerts. The one we went to was well worth the money, the place was beautiful and it included free complimentary drinks - everything mentioned before plus some local wine. Even without that the concert was worth the price. Lovely music, nice dancing and not too touristy. =)
