First time in Naxos which is a nice island. The quality of the food overall from our experience after visiting many tavernas/restaurants in most of the Greek Islands over the years was probably only just about average. We spent two weeks tasting the Naxos cuisine and sadly there was no eating establishment that we could honestly say served a really delicious and high quality three course meal that would entice you back again, night after night. There were establishments whose atmosphere and quality service would make you want to revisit. Sadly the Meltemi taverna was in our humble opinion only just about average on the night. We were really looking forward to our visit after reading the rave write ups on Tripadvisor, but thought we had gone to the wrong place! The beef stifado on our visit had too many onions and not enough beef and was far too salty. Perhaps we picked an off night? It does happen. On the plus side it did make us buy bottles of red wine thereafter as the house wine was like most other places in Naxos Town insipid. It was far more cost effective to buy a bottle at around 13 euros and much more smooth and enjoyable. That said the Meltemi had a nice atmosphere and the lady of the house was a very accommodating and gracious hostess and it appeared to us that there was many repeat diners who thoroughly enjoyed their visit, but unfortunately it was not for us.
