“Surprisingly Wonderful!”
Reviewed June 12, 2014

So we just returned from two weeks in Germany. We concentrated on Bavaria and the Middle Rhine Region. One surprising stay was at the Hotel Kranenturm. We knew we were going to stay in an old tower with a river view, near the train tracks. We thought we'd suffer the noise for the view.

Well, I'll tell you that from the moment we arrived we were treated like kings and queens by Fatima, the owner and proprietor. We were pretty tired, so she immediately sat us down in the beautiful patio overlooking the Rhine hand served us a cooling beer! The patio wasn't open to visitors/guests yet, but she made us feel so very welcomed!

When we checked into our rooms, we were again pleasantly surprised that we could barely hear the trains right below our window. We were on the second level of the tower, we could look down on the patio to the side and the train tracks just next to that. The windows have extra panes to cut down on the noise, and they worked! We did not have to use the cute little ear plugs supplied at bedside.

We also had our first night's dinner in Bacharach at this hotel and had a wonderful meal. The waiter and staff were so very nice and pleasant.

We then had a fabulous breakfast (included with the room)……Fatima works so hard and wants to make sure her guests are happy. She gives you lots of helpful advice, too. Enjoy her if you stay there.

A big thank you to Fatima and her staff --- we thoroughly enjoyed our two nights with you!

Room Tip: We liked the tower with the view of the river. The 2nd floor is just fine, you do not need to be hi...

We stayed in Hotel Kranenturm for two nights in one of the tower rooms. We adored it! Our room made us feel like we were staying in a castle turret complete with a great Rhine view. To access our room, we did need to go up several flights of steep steps, so keep this in mind while booking. Our room was fairly large and very charming. There was no a/c, but we had a fan and got a nice breeze when the windows were open. Although the train is (very) close, we had no trouble sleeping between the fan and earplugs provided. We did not get great WiFi in the tower room, but this wasn't a huge deal for us (WiFi access was available at a sitting area down some stairs). In addition to a sizable breakfast, we also had a nice dinner at the small restaurant downstairs. Overall, we simply loved Bacharach and this charming hotel was a great base from which to explore the Rhine region.

Room Tip: Tower rooms are amazing!

We stayed at the Hotel Kranenturm for two nights (4/29/14-4/30/14) and really enjoyed our stay. We had a very nice room in the "crane tower". We were not bothered by the trains at night even though they were right outside of our window, we slept very well. Breakfast was very good and our dinner in their restaurant was excellent. Fatima, the owner was amazing as she made sure her guests were all being served and really seemed to care that we were enjoying our stay. This hotel has a great location, is very sweet and feels like home. It is not the Ritz or some high end hotel that has no personality so don't expect this as they do not charge the same as high cost that other hotels usually do. Great hotel and location. Fatima thanks for being so welcoming!

Room Tip: Make sure you can walk upstairs with your luggage especially if you stay in an upper level room. The...

Loved staying in the tower room (18) of this hotel. Each room is different with tons of character. Fatima is awesome and very friendly. Great food at the restaurant and a nice deck in the back where you can sit and watch the trains whiz by. Loved Bacharach and loved this hotel. Lots of stairs to climb, but worth it!

Spent our 25th Wedding Anniversary in Europe. This was an affordable, well located, nice, clean hotel and restaurant with friendly owners and staff. The hotels rustic atmosphere added to the old world ambiance. The rooms had a fairy tail feel and were amazing. We throughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Kranenturm. The owners were very informative and accommodating. Best sleep we had in all of Europe (six countries). Kurt made a delicious Sauerbraten you must try, and Fatima was very friendly and helpful at all times. We so look forward to future stays.

Room Tip: We stayed in Rm #1. Castle and River views from either sides of the room. In a word..Awesome!

I stayed at the hotel in the spring of 2012 (a little late on the review). It was the slow season so I think we were one of two people staying there. It's right in the middle of this cute small town on the Rhine. If you're doing a river trip this is a great place to stop. The rooms are decorated in a fun way, neat very old building with a history. The owner was super friendly, spoke with us for a while and cooked us breakfast. Price was good, if you're looking to stay in Bacharach don't hesitate to stay here.

We stayed in the Crane Tower room and honestly were not bothered by the trains at all. Parked by boat launch for 4euros for 24 hours. Easy walk to the hotel. Fatima tries very hard but appeared over worked and exhausted. Rick Steve tours had just left the day we arrived and I think it wore them all out. Restaurant closed for "Day off". Rooms are just ok. Feels like a bed and breakfast, worn and tired.
