“A wonderful experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

My husband and I recently stayed 6 nights at the Hotel Kranenturm. We used the hotel as our base as we explored the area. Fatima is a warm and gracious hostess and the room was homey and comfortable. We were in Room 17 which is at the top of the building but not in the tower. We had a beautiful view of the river and the trains did not bother us (although it was quite a haul up the stairs).

Each morning the breakfast was great and Fatima would cook eggs to order for each guest. We enjoyed returning each evening to Kurt's great cooking in the hotel restaurant. My favorite? ---The pork medallions with mushroom sauce! Mmmm! (I had it twice!) My husband's favorite was the fresh trout which was a special for the month.

The wifi would not work in our room but that in no way diminished our delight with the experience.

We will definitely revisit the Hotel Kranenturm the next time we are in the area.

Room Tip: Rooms on upper floors have a better view and less train noise.

We spent one night in the Kranenturn. The owner (Latifa) was wonderful. She met us at the door and offered us a free refreshment while our room was finalized. Our room was very clean and very comfortable. When she found out we had an early train to catch, she got up early to make sure we could still get some breakfast -- which included fresh cooked eggs, bacon, meuslix, hot rolls, juice, cheeses, and meats. Overall this was a great place to stay and the value was unbelievable. We will stay again if we are in Bacharach.

Room Tip: Stay lower in the tower if you want good wi-fi signal.

We really enjoyed staying at this quaint hotel in Bacharach. Fatima could not have been more hospitable and enthusiastic to have us there. She takes a lot of pride in presenting their hotel. We stayed in tower room no. 8. Lovely and spacious. The close proximity of the trains did not bother me at all. The bed was very comfortable, bathroom was well appointed with sundries and a hairdryer. The room was very clean. Breakfast is also very good with plenty of cold items as well as eggs to order, bacon, sausage. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it.

We recomment it 100%!
A charming, cosy and warm place to stay in the most beautiful of towns on the Rhine, Bacharach. We were welcomed like old friends and our travel challenges ( age, heavy suitcases, and an injured knee) were dealt with with prompt, efficient solutions and smiling people - and then the gift of a glass of Rhine wine. Wow! a lesson in hospitality and caring. Thank you Fatima and Kurt Engel, JohnPaul, Sasha and the girls for making us feel at home in your castle.
We appreciate the hard work and expense involved in keeping up your architectural treasure.
You all deserve continuous success and prosperity. We were there on September 24.

On arriving, we were greeted with a glass of wine and escorted to the terrace overlooking the Rhine,The rest of the stay was just as pleasant. The only drawback is the constant close by train traffic to which you become accustomed, Earplugs are provided @ night for those who are bothered by the noise but still want the Rhine view.
Overall,it was very clean and comfortable, Fatima, the innkeeper was very warm and welcoming. There was even free wifi,

Room 8, the honeymoon suite, was very cozy. Beds were the most comfortable of all during our 20 day tour through Europe. Soft, but still firm. Great views of the city, castle, and the Rhein. 3 flights up without elevator, but baggage help was available. Trains DO pass by the hotel quicky, and for the most part quietly all day and night. Fatima and Karl provided ear plugs, but we did not use them. The sound proof windows are adequate, and we really only felt a very slight vibration as the train whooshed by. Rudesheim is 9 km away, and nice for a day trip. Too many tourists to stay there and relax. Bacharach, less than one hour from Frankfurt is a true old world German experience. Food was REALLY well prepared by gracious Fatima.

Fatima, Fatima, Fatima! What a warm and gracious innkeeper -- I mean "Tower Keeper" -- the hotel's tower is built right onto the town walls that date back to the Middle Ages! If you are looking for quaintness, great history, lots of charm, generous breakfast, a wonderful restaurant noted for local specialties, innkeepers who go beyond what's ever expected to make sure guests are content, happy and comfortable all at a very affordable price -- this is The place. Fatima set us up with a local guide named Thomas who was absolutely Fantastic -- we Highly recommend him -- we tramped up and down vineyards, up to a castle, over to a cathedral, and all through the beautiful picturesque town of Bacharch -- he is a Rick Steves' tour employee and knows the history, architecture, local history, lore and present day Bacharach like the back of his hand and loves his town. To sum it up: Hotel Krantenturm won BEST for 2012 because of the attention paid to guests to ensure they have a great stay and and great experiences in the village and they definitely deserve the distinction.

Room Tip: We liked the back rooms because they are quiet and look out onto the village lane. Trains come by a...
