“Ah, Bacharach!”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

One of the most beautiful, historic, and scenic cities we visited. The Bacharacher Hof is where we stayed and it was fantastic. We can't say enough about the owner/operator, Dirk, and his wife, Ellen. They were very gracious hosts to us and were there for our every need. Ellen even remembered that I have to drink de-caf coffee, and automatically brought it to our breakfast table each morning! My wife and I were placed in room 33 where it is exceptionally quiet and has an excellent view of the Gothic Church ruin and the Castle Stalleck. At night, the ruins are lit for a few hours and are really a sight. Bacharach is a small city where you will need no transportation services, so be prepared to walk. I recommend booking the walking guided tour!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter. Trains run 24/7 near the front side. Room 33 has a nice view.

Hi Dirk and Ellen!! We stayed for 5 nights in the Bacharacher Hof and were blown away by the top level service, food, and accommodations. We bombarded them both with questions about the ferry, bikes, local places, and it seemed that with each passing question they were more and more interested in our travels. We had dinner one night there and i must recommend the schnitzel from Dirk. It is out of this world. There is a pool, sauna, and a porch area for laying out if you want to relax for an hour. All very well kept and clean. Dirk even sent up a couple bath robes for us and extra pillows. We also met their daughter and son, who were also very friendly. Free wifi was a plus as we planned out the next day while we were laying in bed. Thanks for the hospitality, and tell the gang out at the "Guinness bar" we say hello...

Very nice hotel in bacharach. I travelled with my parents in Rheingau area and spent one night in this hotel. Comfortable beds and very good service. The bathroom was good and big. There a lot of thing to do in the area around the hotel.

Our family and friends stayed at the Hotel Bacharacher Hof to attend my grandson's wedding at Burg Rheinstein Castle in July. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect stay. I can't say enough about the food. Dirk prepared a dinner for us that was out of this world. We realized what it was like to live in a small town in Germany the few days we were there. Everyone should experience the Hotel Bacharacher Hof.

Room Tip: We had no complaints about any of the rooms.

This hotel is romantic, comfortable and located in the heart of little town with a bigger than life heart!

We planned our daughter's wedding over a year in advance at a nearby castle on the Rhein River. Bacharach is the nearest town to where the wedding castle is located. I took a gamble and emailed the owners of Bacharacher Hof, Ellen & Dirk Scherschlicht. They were absolutely great to work with. We took 28 friends and family members from California to the Bacharacher Hof. Without any knowledge of the hotel or the wonderful owners, we were so very pleasantly surprised. We asked a tremendous amount of detail from them as goes without saying with a large wedding party from the US. We spent three nights and all of us were well satisfied on all levels.

Dirk & Ellen were very personable and made our stay homey, comfortable, yet wedding formal. They accommodated our every wish with "It's no problem." Customer satisfaction was over the top! They were even there to support in normal unpredictable wedding day mishaps. (They enlisted their mother to help steam the crinkles out of the wedding dress!) Now they can add "wedding planning" onto their lists of expertise! :)

If you should plan to stay or just stop by in Bacharach, make absolute certain you stop in for Dirk's delectable dinner! We had our rehearsal dinner in the Bacharacher Restaurant and it was to die for! It was so delicious, we're trying to squeeze the recipes out of him from California! Unfortunately we didn't know of the great meals (other than the wonderful breakfasts) until the rehearsal dinner so not everyone in our group got to indulge in the scrumptious dinner. Mail order Dirk?

In addition to our wonderful stay at Bacharacher Hof, Dirk introduced us to other townspeople who all were amazing and friendly. We had a walking tour by Rick Steve's famous Herr Jung! He was as humble as he was warm and giving. We went wine tasting at Weingut Karl Heidrich and enjoyed the multi-generations of nectar! The gelato ice cream in town was the yummiest ice cream ever! My husband and the menfolk hit the pastry shop every morning and raved about their pastries and coffee.

All the townspeople are too numerous to mention, but they all welcomed us to their sleepy little romantic town with open arms. They made the wedding and our stay the most memorable and special of all the places we've traveled!

The Bacharacher Hof is a MUST STAY if you are planning to tour the Rhein River area! You won't be disappointed!

Showed up without reservations after looking at a couple places and got a nice welcome. We were shown a couple of rooms both of which were nice but keep in mind there is nothing fancy here. The dinner was excellent and special requests weren't a problem. The couple running the place is very friendly. The breakfast is very good with a lot of selection. We were very pleased with our stay and would have like to stay a little longer. Keep in mind that trains run through this little town all night so there may be a little noise but surprisingly I wasn't bothered at all even though I am a lite sleeper.

Room Tip: A room at the back may help with noise from trains

We caught the ferry from Koblenz and arrived at 6 pm at night with no booking. Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, carried our bags to our room. Only €80 for night in a luxury suite with river views and breakfast for two. Ate at their restaurant for dinner, it was excellent! Wine was local and of high quality. Also has sauna and pool. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms at front great for view, as k for room over looking town if you prefer to not hear trains
