First time here and we were very happy with our visit. It is clean, neat, with fast and friendly service. As it was warm and muggy we opted to stay inside with the A/C. but there is covered "outside seating". We still had a nice table with views of the James River and bridge. The wait staff was very nice and accommodating. We had an appetizer and two of the catch of the day fares. For the warm up we had calamari and it was quite good, lightly breaded, and very fresh tasting. My wife had grilled salmon and I had blackened tuna - both great. We had fries, ordered extra crispy and they were perfect. The coleslaw was not special or at least not prepared the way we like it. It was just sliced cabbage with some sort of vinegary sauce thrown on it so we'd recommend passing on it. They had a few other choices for sides and we will try them next time. Everything tasted fresh which is important at a fish restaurant. We split a key lime pie for dessert and it was good too. For beverages we had beers and tap water with lemon. A note for fish eaters - with us food that is enhanced by lemons was served with fresh large slices of lemon. A small point but one that mattered to us. Like the service several small things were done right by our server and we appreciated it. The Crab Shack is an informal restaurant but is well run and was a pleasure. It is now our "fish joint" for future visits so we can run the list of menu items.
