The hotel itself is quite nice. But the management and service leave a lot to be desired. a) Despite my having to be there for ten days, management was unable to get me anything other than a room with two small beds. b) Internet service is an additional $5 a day, regardless of how long you are staying and how much money you are already spending c) The maid service is spotty at best. After I used my coffeemaker, the cleaning staff left the half-full coffee mug and opened "coffee kit" undisturbed for two days while at the same time neglecting to leave another filter package. d) The staff is similarly cheap when leaving shampoo. you might need to grab some off the maid's cleaning truck, instead. e) Management is unhelpful. f) Verizon cell phone service in this hotel sucks, unless you are standing directly next to the window. Forget talking on the phone while in bed.

Terrible place to stay for any reason. Service " At Your Service" is almost humorous. We left our rooms at 10am to find them as we left them at 3pm. Made a number of calls to "At Your Service" to ask them to have housekeeping make the rooms up. Each time we were told they would personally check this matter and have someone clean the rooms immediately. Each call resulted in nothing! In addition, two different rooms service orders were a disgrace. The food was inedible. Our dogs would not have eaten the food and they are not very picky. All in all Marriott has gone to the dogs! At one time the brand stood for quality. Old man Willard must be turning over in his grave. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL UNLESS YOU ENJOY PAYING RITZ CARLTON (MARRIOTT OWNED NOW AND NOT WHAT IT WAS EITHER) FOR HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS SERVICE. ONE MORE THING! THE ROOMS WERE SO SMALL THAT THEY ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR TWO PEOPLE!!! STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

This is a super-nice almost-new Marriott, in a super location. Staff was exceptionally pleasant. Meeting rooms were really nice, so it is a nice place to schedule meetings.

My family and I stayed in two rooms, two double beds in each, on July 5th for one night. One room faced the large fountain and one room faced the opposite--a vacant lot/parking lot. My advice is to request a room with a view of the fountain (I believe the price is the same).
Both rooms were close to the elevators, but you didn't hear them inside the rooms.
The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable. Bathroom was a good size.
The location was good--nice to walk around the fountain and some of the shops/restaurants. Parking was free, although that may be because it was a holiday weekend.
Only drawback was that one of the rooms was not yet available when we arrived at 1 on July 5th. Granted, we were early (the front desk told me that check in was at 4). We went and had lunch in the meantime and by the time we were back (around 3), the second room was available. A minor inconvenience, but we worked it out. Was a little surprised abut the delay (we are Marriott rewards members), but all is well that ends well.
I would stay at this hotel again, if I'm in the area.

We went with the family (3) and friends (4) and got adjoining rooms over the Memorial Day weekend. Rooms were spacious and clean, the beds very comfortable and the one roll away bed we used was also very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was very good ($13) and allowed us to enjoy Busch Gardens and Water Country on a full stomach each day. My wife enjoyed the hotel so much we have booked again for the 4th of July weekend. Only suggestion: covered parking should be included in the price of the room. The room rate is very favorable compared with the Williamsburg area finer hotels and only 20 minutes away. Enjoy your stay!

Marriott Hotel- Newport News, VA at City Center March 22, 2008

Just returned from a 3 day reunion held at the above mentioned hotel.. This nearly new hotel is tucked away in a new section of Newport News, VA, in an area called City Center. It is conveniently located just a short distance off of I-64, between Norfolk, VA and Williamsburg, VA.
The hotel was extremely clean from the parking lot, entranceway, hallways, rooms, and everything else in the hotel.
The rooms were well decorated and furnished - the large and spacious, beds were very comfortable with plenty of pillows. Bathrooms were also spacious and neat with fixtures at counter top height level. Bathtub and sink drains all drain as they should- not like so many other places where they drain very slowly. Hotel staff was very friendly. Food was very good and HOT as it should be. While there, several other large groups were meeting. Even with the other large groups you never had a feeling of being crowded. Three elevators kept the wait to a minimum. Colorfull carpeting throughout the hotel gave it a bright and cheerfull atmosphere.

I stayed at this hotel for a business trip and thought it was very nice. It is new, clean, bright, good sized rooms, and has large plasma TVs. The breakfast buffet included cooked food items and was reasonably priced. The bar and restaurant are nice but are not high end - I think it could have been a little more upscale. There was a nice pool and the exercise room seemed to be an appropriate size. I was a little surprised that I had to pay for parking. It was only $6 but it's not like Newport News is a thriving metropolis with a need to charge for parking. I would definitely recommend this Marriott and stay here again.
