“Not quite Right”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

Hotel is a great location. View from room was excellent. Bed was comfortable as in all Marriott. However check in did not go smooth as it should as no clerk was present to greet and no bell to alert the staff of a customer. Be sure and stop at the round about to check in and do not park in garage prior to checking in. I would recommend parking on ground level since if you park on the 1st level you have to walk thru half the hotel and take a elevated to lobby. Parking is as stated as 6.00. Too much for this garage parking. Specials are available to include parking and Internet at reduced rate. Well worth the special rate. Internet signal strong in my room on 9th floor. Lots of restaurants in area within walking distance. Try county line BBQ. Best BBQ in town. Car needed to travel to this restaurant. Check out went well with no issues. May stay here again but the courtyard or residence inn down by the airport are my first choice if I am here on business. I stayed here primarily because of a social event I attended was held here. Food at the event was very good.

The hotel and rooms are very nice. We were here for a wedding and the staff at the wedding were great! The rooms were clean and beds were nice. There were two issues I mentioned at checkout.. 1 ... you will not have cell service within the rooms at all... so you will need to pay for wifi to stay connected at all... Also, housekeeping wasnt the best and never cleaned our room despite me asking and putting the tag saying to clean it. The only time they did try to come.. 5pm while i was showering in prep for the wedding; the staff was banging on the door yelling house keeping and would have came in if it were not for the latch being closed.. they continued to try to talk to me thru the crack while i was yelling at them from the shower....

Tried to book a room using a military discount. I had stayed at the hotel before and was familiar with the location. Was very surprised to find out that during peak times such as CNU Orientation or CNU Freshman Move In, Military Rate rooms are given only to a few rooms. I guess my thoughts are if you are going to say that your company appreciates the military and what those service members have done for you, then raising their rates during peak times seem a bit two faced doesn't it? Guess you just want to say you have "military rates".
I like other reviewers below found the hotel to be just okay to poor. Beds were comfortable, but poorly made up. The two flat sheets used didn't cover the mattresses fully, dust ruffles half way tucked up under the mattress too, wrinkled and dirty. Pillows and cases looked used. Beds not vacuumed around, found items from previous tenant under the edge of the bed on the floor. Hair on shower walls and in the tub. Bulb in desk lamp and reading lamp burnt out. Toilet makes a running noise and changes water levels when the toilet next door is flushed!!?? Vent cover that I assume is the air intake vent is missing so there was just a big hole there on the wall. Every word of the conversation the people were having on the phone next door was piped via this vent into my room. And they were on the phone a looonngg time.
Carpet worn and threads standing up in spots, carpet dirty. FEE for PARKING. FEE for INTERNET. FEE for BREAKFAST. FEE for NEWSPAPER. This place is totally depending on its past reputation, BOOK AT THE HILTON GARDEN INN NEWPORT NEWS, much nicer for about 60.00 less, with free wifi, free parking ect. 3.7 miles from CNU. Military rate ALL the time.

I have stayed at many Marriots and this is one of the worst. Fee for parking with is convenient parking either. Fee for Internet. Breakfast is expensive and poor quality. I can not recommend someplace else because this is the only place I have stayed close to here. I have 40k + Marriott reward points but if I stay in this area again I take my chances staying somewhere else.

We stay here often when we visit the Newport News area. This has always been a nice hotel but over the last few years, there appears to be a slight decline. The staff is always great and will do anything within their power to help.

A couple of days before we arrived, there was water damage on the first and second floor. This hurt the initial appearance of the hotel because the machines were trying to dry the water from the affected areas. Because the main restaurant was damaged, we all ate brunch in the crammed alternative restaurant. The second day, we didn't get room service until 4pm. When she arrived, she had an attitude problem. The next 3 days, room service were great.

We love this hotel and it's location and we plan to stay there on our next visit. It appears to have slipped just a little.

me and my wife always does mini vacations where we just get away. so this time after searching the net we decided to stay at the marriott. i have always wanted to stay there but when we found such a huge discount on hotels.com it was no question.
now we are rewards members but our rewards price was much higher than the disount hotels.com provided. so we went with that.
we got there a little early so we had to wait to go to our room, but we where still able to check in well before 4pm. the room was great and the cust svc was superb. i really loved the deep bath tub.
my only regret was that the hot tub was closed and that was part of the reason we stayed there.
other than that it was another great marriott stay.
we will def be back!!!!!

After my significant-other and I missed our cruise, we were scrambling to make alternative arrangements for we weren't going to return to DC that evening after braving Memorial Day traffic.

Given that it was Memorial Day we were prepared to pay a ridiculous amount of money for subpar accommodations however, after researching the hotels in the area we were delighted to find this little gem! My boyfriend was thoroughly impressed with the service he received upon our arrival from Morgan. I was also impressed with the service I received from Whitney.

Our room was a standard Marriott room--can't complain. We were fortunate to have a room overlooking the fountains which was great!

While this wasn't the cruise we were geared to take, the accommodations and service we received was a nice "save!"
