Description: Vinny & Sonny Chiarello originally opened their doors as "Luigi's Pizza and Subs" in Newport News, VA in 1987. The brothers moved to Newport News from Queens, NY in 1986-- to their humble beginnings in a small pizza joint just down the road on from where they are currently located on Warwick Blvd. They built their business based on their Italian roots & love of their family's original recipes. Growing up, they learned early on the importance of great food and the tradition of sharing meals with loved ones in groups both large & small. Luigi's quickly grew into a successful full-service restaurant specializing in a variety of pizzas & pastas of their own (now) famous recipes. After 30 years, in 2014, Vinny & Sonny closed Luigi's in hopes of retirement. A Mexican Restaurant in its place just didn't make the cut. Luigi's loyalists pined over the loss through countless calls & emails for over a year. The brother's daughters reopened Luigi's in 2016 to "Revive The Next Generation". & so, The Love is Back!

Chicken white bake & garlic knots! What more can one say. You gotto go see Vinny & Sonney and eat here. You can't go wrong eating here and you are sure to walk out with a box to go.

Luigi's is back!!! Luigi's was my family's favorite restaurant for over 10 years, but in the last few years we weren't as pleased with the food. We returned this month and the food was back to delizioso! What a difference. We had lasagna, fettuccine & spaghetti with meatballs. The garlic knots rocked!!! Can't wait to return.

My first time there, will not be my last. The decor invites you to relax. The wait staff was cheerful and attentive, and didn't rush you even though the restaurant was nearly full. The garlic knots were warm and very tasty. The food was served in a reasonable timeframe and was tasty and hot. We liked the "petite" portion size meals they have on the menu. It was sufficient quantity to eat with barely room left over to share a dessert.

INside and Outside this place is pure Italian. The food is great. The waiter was funny and wonderful and the owner he and his kids look Italian. The food was pure Italian. Good good food. We ate in the afternoon, it had the romantic feel as Italians like to do. During the day when I pass I see alot of military men in uniform going in. This place has it going on. It is pricy but you get what your paying for.

Luigi's has always been a family favorite. It was usually our restaurant of choice for family gatherings, even though it was a half hour drive for most of us. The food was always great, the garlic knots were reason alone for me to make the trip. Our last visit was the first time we've gotten back there since they instituted a new menu. We were not impressed and will probably not go out of our way to eat there again.
To be fair, they were very busy the night we visited. Also, those of us that ordered specialties that are no longer on the menu had very good meals (we remembered them from the old menu and they are still listed on their website). However, there were some real disappointments that I think deserve mentioning.
1. Salad is no longer included with the dinner. I don't mind paying extra for a salad but when it comes out with iceberg lettuce, barely ripe tomatoes and dressing in single serving food service cups, that's when I will no longer order the salad.
2. They used to have the best Potato Soup I had ever had but there was no sign of that on the menu and the waitresses never mentioned it.
3. The first batch of garlic knots were not even warm. We requested a second basket and they too were not warm and also had a hard exterior that indicated they had spent too much time in the oven. When we explained the problem to the waitress, she replaced them with warm garlic knots but it took 2 requests and 15 minutes to receive the new batch. They were much better temperature-wise, but still seemed like they had been cooked too long.
4. A couple of people in our party ordered a Porterhouse steak special offered that evening and the steak was very thin and had little seasoning
5. Chicken Parmesan as a whole was good but the breaded chicken had little to no flavor on its own due to lack of seasoning.
6. The menu has been pared down considerably but you can still order some things off the old menu if you know enough to ask. I do miss the Fri/Sat specials that used to include some really great items such as scallops stuffed with crabmeat in a tomato cream sunrise sauce :(
7. A family restaurant that doesn't offer any dessert appropriate for children. They had a few dessert items (don't think they are made on the premises), no ice cream and only one flavor of gelato (Pistachio), which was very good but not something most children would want.
