“Enjoyable stay”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

My husband and I stayed here for the first time last evening. We enjoyed our stay, the staff were hospitable and kind from the start. The room was nice, clean and spacious. I enjoyed the fitness room, it was small but had what I needed. The pool was very small but nice.

Rooms are spacious and clean. The front desk was very courteous and helpful. This hotel was convenient to the ball fields where our team was playing as well as to many restaurants and shops.

We were there for a baseball tournament and had gotten a tournament rate for Friday and Saturday nights. During the weekend we experienced some rain which delayed all of the games on Sunday. Realizing that we weren't going to be done playing until almost midnight....and not wanting to make the 3.5 hour drive home that night.....I called the hotel and asked if they would honor my tournament rate for one more night (Sunday.) Without hesitation they said they would and saved us a long drive in bad weather.

I would definitely stay here again without question!!!!

Thanks for a great stay and being so accommodating.

I've been frequenting Starwood properties nowadays but had no choice when staying in Newport News for a week. Hilton properties are a nice backup plan and this HGI is a gem.

The rooms are spacious, the mini-frig is a great luxury, closet and bathroom space are ample, beds are comfortable, thermostats are present in the rooms instead of window units that are not automated. Everything is clean and nice, period. Nothing ultra-fancy, but HGI has always been perfectly acceptable just a shade shy of pampered.

I was able to get a week pass at a local gym (Open Life) so I didn't use the facility, but it looked decent and should be adequate for most people. The pool was a comfortable temperature and I took advantage of it as well as the hot tub.

The breakfast is definitely something that should be reserved when booking the room, as the rate is only a few dollars more per night and well worth it. The made-to-order items are excellent and the chef is a warm guy. Speaking of warm and friendly staff, the rest of the folks I encountered were just as outgoing and engaging, not to mention generous. I had to wait several minutes upon check-in and the clerk offered me some bottle water for my trouble. I asked for ChapStick instead and he gladly obliged.

The location is decent - right near the interstate and right next to a grocery store to stock up the mini-fridge. There's a decent Thai restaurant and a good Asian bistro as well as a large Regal cinemas all within line of sight and very walk-able. I didn't use the shuttle but it was often coming and going so I assume this service is sufficient.

I would stay here again without hesitation should I need to come back to Newport News.

stayed in a room wih two queen beds. the hotel and room was clean. had to pay extra for breakfast and a cot. so the rate of the room was good till you added in the extras. nice exercise room. the spa was out of service but the pool was fine. I would stay there again. Overall a good experience.

Just a quick 1 night stay. Arrived at the airport at midnight. Called the hotel for their free shuttle and they were already there. I was at the hotel in 10 minutes. Check in was easy and friendly. Shuttle drivers were very friendly. Overall the hotel is a typical Hilton Garden Inn, nice rooms, comfy beds, and free internet, but the staff made the stay very pleasant. I guess it's that southern hospitality. Would definitely return.

Exceeded my expectations. Front desk staff were very welcoming and friendly. Mattress and linens were great. Usually choose Hampton Inn - will use Hilton Garden again in future. Only difference is that breakfast is not included.

I LOVED this nice, quaint, clean, hotel. The people here were amazing and they cared about your stay. Even the guests were happy (I think partially due to the staffs attitudes). Nice breakfast with custom omlettes and the chef who worked the day I was there made the best omlette I've had in a long time.

Room Tip: No bad rooms.
