“Feels like home”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

My husband was on a three week business trip. Since we have friends in the area, I decided to go with him. We stayed in the Hilton Garden Inn in Newport News, VA.

The staff was very friendly. In fact each morning when I went down for breakfast I was welcomed by name. Pretty impressive since it is a good sized hotel. Everything was always clean.

Since our first visit, we have returned several times, and we will continue to stay there when in the area.

We have stayed at this property several times and this stay was the best by far. Nice rooms, nice lobby, nice/helpful/professional staff. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Thank you for taking time out of what was probably a busy day to write a review and let the world know about your stay. We really appreciate your kind words because it was not something you did out of obligation, but instead, as a reward for our hard work. It's guests like you that make it all worth it in the long run. In the near future we hope to see you aagin.

Stayed here with large group of parents and high school swim team members. Staff was pleasant on check in and check out and helpful at other times as well. Hotel has a business office/area with computers where you could find out local area information and check your own accounts. Hotel did their best to put all high school students on one floor so as not to disrupt other patrons and stayed on top of noise complaints and kids in the hallway. Beds were very comfortable and linens were nice. Air conditioning unit in room functioned very well but was also very loud. Breakfast is offered at an additional charge of $7.95 each but well worth it. Very complete selection of hot/cold cereals, fruit, pastries, bagels, bacon, sausage, grits and something made to order (omelette, pankakes, waffles, eggs etc...). Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask if any student groups are staying and if they are, ask to be put on a separate floor.

I was pleased with my stay here while visiting family in the area. I had expected it to be noisier because of its general location but was pleasantly surprised to find that the hotel was quietly tucked back away from the main road. The room was nice and clean throughout our stay, the refrigerator came in handy, and the free internet was reliable and easy to connect. I didn't get to try out the pool or fitness area, but I was pleased with everything I did see. There was a grocery store very close by, which was convenient for us to pick up a few things. The only thing that could be improved in my opinion would be if some sort of breakfast was included with the stay.

We were overnighting in Newport News so the location to sights was not a consideration when we selected this hotel. It was conveniently located to restaurants and shops. The staff, especially Gervan at reception were fabulous. They were so friendly and welcoming. Our room was excellent, large and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was very nice, treat yourself to the freshly made to order pancakes, they were yummy. If you have a car, parking is free, and many things are an easy drive from here.

When Hurrican Irene iced our plans for a vacation on the outer banks of NC, we decided to try Virginia. We were able to book a week in Williamsburg but needed to find a hotel for one night in or around Norfolk as this is where we flew into. We selected this location because we have never been disappointed by a Hilton Garden Inn property. We were pleasantly surprised to find that this particular property is situated a block off of the main road, so there is no road noise and no difficulty accessing the property. Also, a movie theatre is located next door. We didn't visit it but this could be a plus if you're planning to be here for several days. Our room was ready when we arrived, mid-afternoon. We checked out the pool and spa and had the entire place to ourselves. The pool could use a bit work, I thought it was dirty but what I was seeing on the bottom was worn concrete. There was a weight room adjacent to the pool area and another guest appeared to be making good use of those facilities. Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We had a great night's sleep; it was very quiet inside the hotel. The only disappointing aspect of our stay was the restaurant. The woman who owns/runs the restaurant was the only person working the front of the business while one person was working (cooking) in the back. It was a long wait for anything that you wanted to have cooked, i.e. pancakes, eggs, waffles. The woman's english was very difficult to understand and she overstayed her welcome at our table. We were glad to see other diners as she eventually moved on to their tables. The food was poor in quality and I left hungry. It took a long time to get our check and we finally gave up and left money on the table. This was very disappointing since we've enjoyed a good breakfast at other Garden Inn's; however, overall the rest of our stay was enjoyable.

Great staff, great rooms, I suggest eating in one night. Starbucks is across the parking lot too!
