Needed a room for a quick one night stay and wound up with this one on Hotwire. I was a little antsy once I read some of the reviews here...but my son and I are hardy types and can handle a little adversity (and hadn't planned on using the pool anyway), so we headed for the Tidewater region.
What we found echos much of what I'd read about. This is the old Omni: a little tough to find, TINY directional signs, a hundred bizarrely (severely!?!) pruned trees lining the driveway. The architecture is a little peculiar (office high-rise meets California cathedral) but the parking area and unloading zone are clearly marked. There is a valet stand, but it was unattended for the duration of my brief stay.
The lobby decor is a little dated but was also large and clean and comfortable. The restaurant is now open in a lower level off the lobby. Did not eat there, but was warmly greeted by the hostess. Checked in with two courteous and professional gentlemen, who handled a small room request easily and efficiently (Not always the case when one is a Hotwire customer).
As we made our way to the nearby (if pokey) elevators, I noticed that the indoor pool is now open. The corridors were dinly lit, but did not have any ill odors as had been mentioned in other reviews. The 4th floor was marked as a non-smoking floor and I never found any reason to suspect that it wasn't
The room was large and comfortable. Two double beds, clean & comfortable duvets and a couple of arm chairs. There was a mini-fridge in the credenza under the (old tube-style) TV cabinet. Plenty of lights and a full power strip beside the desk. The room had a big closet, spacious bathroom and a too-loud air conditioning unit (but hey, it worked). Our room was near the elevator, but we never heard any guest noise for the duration of the stay.
One minor housekeeping quibble: The room wasn't quite ready for occupancy..used soap in the dish, wash cloth on the vanity, a little trash in the trash can, looked like some had napped on top of the covers. BUT as they had helped me by switching me from a single king to a double, I chalked it up to a communication hiccup between housekeeping and the front desk and it really didn't affect us at all.
Easy AM checkout...pleasant staff interaction throughout. A safe, (a little more light in the parking lot though, huh), comfortable stay. I'll return.
