I stayed there the week of Aug. 19. After I checked in I noticed the toliet leaked and refilled every 5 minutes. The phone next to the bed had a light notifying me I had a voice mail. However, when I picked up the handset there was no dial tone. I let the front desk know and was told they would have the repairs done first thing the next morning. When I checked out 3 days later, the toilet still leaked and refilled and the phone did not work.
The sofa had a bad stain on a seat cushion. I tried turning the cushion, but it appears someone had spilled something nasty between the cushons! UGHHHH.
Other than these things the room appeard clean. The maid did a great job.

Thank you so much for your review.

Wow, when we mess up we mess up good! I couldn't be more embarrassed and am so sorry. for your experience. This is an award winning property - a 7 time Torchbearer Award winner! What you experienced is definately not reflective of their standards!

I'm so glad the housekeeper did a great job with the rest of your room. The team is already addressing your concerns and rectifying them so they don't occur again.

Thanks again for helping us to get it right!

First room had a 12x12 rusty patch in tub, smelled musty and mold neat bath. Took photos and front desk moved us the next afternoon. The next room was ok. The rooms aren't as nice as an embassy suite or hampton inn. The sheet quality is cheaper and pillows lumpy. One of the front desk people was plan disinterested and annoyed when she was asked questions. The only plus was the Italian restaurant was good and the breakfast was good. 2

Looks like we fell down on the job with your visit. That's always disappointing, for you and for us.

This hotel is excellently located on US 17 and next to I-65. We were there to see our son who just got back from Afghanistan but it's close to a lot of attractions too. Staff was very friendly, room was clean and comfy. Free breakfast was excellent (had to sign up for Holiday Inn club but couldn't see a downside to that). Purchased on Hotwire for $57/night.

Thank you so much for your kind review. The team tries really hard to take care of their guests and make every stay a memorable one.

And, thanks to you, your family and your son for your service to our country. It's a gift that is often not appreciated - we are grateful.

Thanks again!

This is a nice hotel, neat and clean. The front desk staff was very helpful, polite and made our stay comfortable. There was a question about the breakfast which was a bit confusing. We had coupons which we thought covered our breakfast and the kids ate free - however, that was a bit misleading. When we asked at the front desk about the breakfast policy, we were told that the coupons only covered two breakfasts per room - so if you have children then you had to pay. The breakfast was fair at best and you may have fared better at the IHOP, Waffle House or one the other breakfast eateries. However, this was a nice Holiday Inn and we would definitely stay here again!

I booked a room at this Holiday Inn on HotWire for $61/night. It is located 15 miles from Busch Gardens Williamsburg and around 30 miles from Virginia Beach. We spent time at both on this trip. The hotel is conveniently located right off the interstate in what appears to be a good section of Newport News. This hotel is 1-2 exits down from the airport and we did not hear any aircraft noise.

The rooms are nice with good beds, nice bathroom and shower, flat screen TV, quality furnishings and fixtures. If you ask at the desk about joining their rewards program, they give you free breakfast coupons for the breakfast buffett in the attached restaurant. The breakfast was good and much more than a continental breakfast at similar hotels.

The only complaint is that the maid staff turned off the A/C while we were gone during the day. The room was still reasonably cool, but they need to know on a multi-day stay that they should NOT change the customer's temperature settings.

The staff was very friendly and nice. They proudly displayed a Trip Advisor rating placard in their lobby. I highly recommend this hotel for visits to the area. It is worth the short drive to Busch Gardens to avoid the nasty budget motels in Williamsburg or paying $100/night more for a decent room.

Room Tip: I use Hotwire and select rooms that are 3 stars or above.

Thanks for taking time to write such a nice review. And, lucky for you that you were able to secure one of the few Hotwire rates we have out there on a weekly basis!

Thanks for your description of the hotel and for your suggestions. We have already addressed them with the team.

Hope to see you back again during your next trip to Newport News.

This hotel is very nice. Clean, well decorated. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed staying here. The breakfast is in a restaurant and only free if you have coupons with your stay. It was a very good breakfast buffet and comfortable setting. It is easy not to see this hotel from the street, because there is another hotel right at the street where you have to turn in and coming from the west at the angle of the road, you have to look back toward the left to see it.

This is a good place to stay. Everyone on the staff was friendly and helpful. Everything was clean, the beds were comfortable (I love Holiday Inn beds - firm, but with that snuggle-on-in pillowtop mattress cover.) The bathroom is large, with tons of vanity space to spread out your things. Towels were plentiful and plush. The shower was great - the water gets very hot, and the shower head was adjustable. The pulse setting was great after a long, hot day at Busch Gardens. The shower curtain had that curved curtain rod to give you extra space.
When I checked in I was given a coupon for a free appetizer at the in-house Italian restaurant, and a free breakfast coupon. Obviously the gimmick is that they only give you one, so if you want to feed the whole family, you'll still end up buying breakfast, but this hotel does not advertise free breakfast (it's not a Holiday Inn Express) so getting the one coupon was a nice surprise. The breakfast buffet included bagels, toast, fresh fruit, sausage, bacon, eggs, potatoes, and cereals the day I was there.
We did not use the pool, but it looked very inviting.
The internet access in the rooms is not wireless, but an ethernet cable is provided. Of course you're limited to one computer being online at a time.
The AC worked well. It did create a little noise, but I never heard other hotel noises - no doors slamming or upstairs people walking, so maybe the AC created just the right "white noise" to drown things out. The room has a microwave and fridge, too. The fridge made little noises of its own, too.
The hotel is practically in the highway right-of-way for the ramp to I-64. To get to it from I-64, get over to the left as soon as you get on Morris, and make the very first LEFT on Louise. The GPS was very confused about this, and it looks like you are pulling into a different hotel parking lot, but it's the only access to the Holiday Inn.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful and thoughtful review! You took such great care to express your experience and we truly appreciate it!

We do offer our Priority Club members a free appetizer and free breakfast for the PC member. Fiorello's Italian Restaurant is so super fabulous we just want to make sure our guests get to experience the dinner! True Sicilian cooking! The pasta is wonderful, portions are huge and the pizzas - oh boy!

We look forward to your next visit!
