“What a Great Display of Weapons”

Since my first trip to visit the VWM, I have returned with many friends who are visiting the area, because here is a museum that is well worth the visit. The museum started out as the American Legion's collection point for all the items donated by members from different wars. It later had such a large colection, it became the VWM. One of the best collections of individual soldier equipment and weapons have been to in any country. They have some great displays as well, and always am going and looking for new displays of items being rotated out to be displayed from the imense collection that the Museum has.

The outside of the building looks horrible. But take time to walk around the building and see all the vehicles that are too big to fit inside. Then go slow through the museum. There are a lot of one of the kind items there. They have for example, Sepp Dietrich's coat. He was a Nazi SS panzer commander during the Battle of the Bulge. Great collection of war posters. We go at least once a year to see all the artifacts.

Lots of interesting exhibits covering all the wars our military has taken part in. Our 9 year old took part in a WW II Summer Camp and loved it. He already had an interest in History but wants us to make sure he can go next Summer too. They put on Camps through out the year. The kids learn a ton and have a great time!

I had visited the Virginia War Museum about 10 years ago--but I decided to visit again. I thought the museum was great. They have amazing artifacts from the American Revolution and beyond. I thought two of the most interesting things at the museum were a section of the Berlin Wall and part of the fence from Dachau.

Good place to go if you are a war or history buff. Lots to see but they are renovating and rearranging the big pieces so they are not on display.
