“Dynamite Pho.”

Well run, very friendly and efficient staff. The spring rolls were to die for. The pho was superb, with a great and traditional condiment platter. Definitely a repeat visit place.

“The Best Vietnamese food in our area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2011

This is a great place for tasty Vietnamese food. We eat at this restaurant weekly since they opened their restaurant in the Denbigh section of Newport News, near the airport. They also have several other restaurants in the greater Hampton Roads area.

The restaurant name comes from the name of their famous soup "Pho" and the year the Vo family came to America - 1979. The word pho sounds close to the sound "phuh" to English speakers and the "ph" is said as the /f/ sound.

Yes, the soup is great, but don't miss out on their Vermicelli Noodle Bowls (Bun). The large bowl contains vermicelli noodles, bean sprouts, cilantro, carrot slivers, and your choose of meets or shrimp grilled on wooden skewers. Our favorite variety is B1 - Bún Dac Biet - Rice vermicelli with grilled pork, chicken, and beef. A small cup of fish sauce is provided plus oriental hot sauce, if you are so inclined. I pass on the hot sauce, but I add extra fish sauce. The serving portion is large, so you may want to order an appetizer and share the Bun. We have enjoyed all the appetizers, especially A1 - that's two (2) Vietnamese Spring Rolls (GÕi CuÓn) for $2.95 and A3 - that's three (3) Sugarcane Shrimp (Chạo tôm) $2.75. Check their menu out at their web site: http://www.eatpho79.com/.

The place is decorated in an attractive, modest modern style. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful.

We highly recommend Pho 79 in Newport News.

“Awesome food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2011

This is not an intimate dining experience but is some of the best Vietnamese food in the area. The soup is delicious, piping hot and slurp-worthy. The appetizers and specials are authentic and very tasty! If you don't know how to eat the Pho, be sure to ask the waiter - it is so good when spiced up properly with all the add-ons!

“Pho-King good food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2011

The food here is awesome. Very tasty! Clean restaurant, nice atmosphere. The servers are rather rude. Some are very nice but most seem irritated that you are there and ordering food.

I love the spring rolls but they do not come with as many shrimp that are pictured on the menu. Bubble tea is awesome. No military discount offered.

“MADE MY DAY”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2011

My first Vietnamese Restaurant. Very clean. I had the Vermicelli grilled chicken for lunch. Big serving that was sooo good!! Sis had Pho chicken and loved it. Brother-in-law had Vermicelli steak and egg rolls that all was delicious. Jasmine tea was good. Polite employees. Knowledgeable and pleasant. Fast service. Very clean place with comfortable seating. So nice to find a good place to eat that doesn't cost alot.
